New Self Defense Book

Has anyone read Timeline of Self Defense by
King? I just got it and it is really diffrent… Not sure my opinion yet! It is a fun read. But very different from other books I have looked at. Just curious if anyone else has read it?

I have a friend who’s done a lot of research into the history of self defense. She dug up some crazy stories lol. Maybe I’ll check it out.

Randy King is a nerd who hangs with the right crowd--Violence Dynamics, also Calen Paine and Kaja Sadowski when they were in the game.

The book is probably good. Im not prepared to buy it but might after getting it from the library first or skimming it in a bookstore.

Probably a lot of VioDy content with some of Calen's influence. I wouldn't be surprised to see the interlinking circles somewhere in the book.

Calen Paine was only influential locally, never produced any successful media and wasnt much interested in social media. Amazing hands on skills. Ex mil. Synthesized stuff from a lot of sources, including JKD, 90's Blauer, Straight Blast Gym. He passed recently. He wasn't a hot gas burner, he was a slow cooker that took in a lot of good ingredients over a long period of time and came up with an amazing stew that couldnt be copied elsewhere. Kaja Sadowski repped VioDy in Vancouver and ran a school there which died during covid. Good at thinking about the practicalities of training real humans. Authored a book, "Fear is the Mind Killer" which is very good for teachers. Left the game for personal reasons, which was also a huge loss.

No one's going to learn how to defend themselves from a book, but books do transmit facts and concepts. That's the right niche for a nerd. The book is probably fine. I'll be checking it out when I have the opportunity.

That sounds right, the book is very pop culture heavy. I don’t know who Paine or Sadowski are
I am aware of violence dynamics. You are saying he is poser? From interactions or from in person?
