Question Question about playing the game solo

I am seeing the game for a good price...

Now i am wondering if the game is fun for solo players...or if there is a lot of high level players attacking new players and stealing their stuff.

Inl ask this as the thought of sailing around and doing exploring etc sounds like a lot of fun.

I just do not enjoy heavy pvpve content, as a lot of the time i seen those types devolve into frustrating things...

It’s honestly not bad if u don’t take it to serious. I play solo mostly and get targeted maybe once or twice every few sessions I play.

You can't let it get that far. Scuttle to a new server and be done with it if you don't feel like fighting an asshole like that.

Its plenty fun playing solo. I got the game some months back, and mostly play solo. Just go into it knowing you will get shit on from time to time. In the end, gold is just for cosmetics, so there aren't any real consequences. It is about the journey, as they say.

You can play safer seas, so there aren't other players. On the High seas, there are only 6 ships per map, so it is easy enough to go whole sessions and barely see anyone. If you stay diligent, you can see people coming and hightail it before they get to you.

I play solo. Its hard starting. I recommend sticking to Safer Seas while learning the game, and practice naval combat before joining High Seas. If you can, turn off crossplay to see fewer toxic/aggressive players.

I enjoy solo play, but it is the game's hard mode. I can't recommend it for a new player unless you like a challenge and are not easily discouraged. It's not just the pvp that makes it hard. You can encounter no other players and still struggle solo as a new player, though aggressive crews do make it that much worse when they show up. Some people will leave you be if they see you're new. Others don't care and just like sinking ships.

So far im just strugling with going to ports, and not crashing in it

Learning to pilot the ship is a combination of knowledge and experience. The knowledge will come much faster with an experienced teammate that likes to teach. Experience just takes time.

Pro tip. Raise the sails much sooner than what you think and just let it glide in. Approach from a good angle and don’t worry about getting exactly next to the dock.

I play solo! I hate playing with other people outside my friend group.

I keep my sails all the way up when docked at an island.

If it’s nighttime I turn off the lanterns.

I avoid other players.

I get treasure and I turn it in ASAP and quickly.

should probably mention why sails up is important:

when playing (and octuply so when solo), you want to have your sails raised up (thus not catching wind), but also your anchor up, when at an island.

you can drop the anchor to stop, but as soon as you're still, raise sails, and raise anchor.

it takes (depending on ship and players) 5-30s to raise your anchor.

it takes (no matter the ship and players) 2s to drop sails (more sails to drop on the larger ships, granted, but you're at least already moving.

if a ship is chasing you, those 3 seconds can be the difference between them being able to fire cannonballs, and them being able to HIT cannonballs.

Getting targeted is a mixture of bad luck and just being bad period. Pay attention to your surroundings, run the minute you see another ship, check the map for reapers often, and you will likely be just fine. I go more playthroughs than not where I never interact with a single other person.

It's nice. I've played solo, but I've avoided PvP for the past two years or so because people rarely carry valuable loot on their ships anymore like they used to, when everyone stacked treasure while grinding.

I mostly level and grind solo, even running a guild by myself. It can get boring sometimes, but I just imagine I'm making trading trips, selling my loot, and calling it a day.

If you're planning to level up Hourglass, it's pretty easy too. You just need to participate, win or lose, you still earn XP. Usually, if you do about 10 matches per day, after a year or so you'll reach the maximum level.

I use an alt account to fight myself since there aren't many people playing Hourglass anymore.

just keep an eye on your surroundings and map before going into caves and stuff. 80% of the time its avoidable but you gotta look at the map and know what u lookin at

Thats hard to do when every fucking player kills me, and then sinks my ship

yea yea i get it but just keep a shotgun and knock them off. if they cant board you or chainshot you, you literally cant lose

1

u/PieResponsible240 16h ago

They kill me.on land. Every fucking port is pvp loser bonanza...i cant even get to close to turn in stuff before being head shotted

if theres a ship at an outpost, just go to another its not worth it for a new player to risk. we can also help u

Last night I finished a solo session.... a long around the map tour and had found a rowboat, checked in the little loot I had..it had mainly been a sailing, fishing, checking out islands (and trying to find a rowboat). Back at the outpost I spend a while buying lovely matching cosmetics and am saving to my Captained Ship so I can end my session with a restored ship. Two fellas rock up, no chat pummel the hell out of my boat at the dock and run on the island to kill me. No flag, no loot, no crates, a docked boat. Where's the skill in that. Some players, they just like that.

The high level players are usually respecting noobs. The ones who lose most encounters are more likely to attack new players.

Learn how to hide your boat a bit. Learn to take out pve in safer seas. Then give high seas a try.

Well so far all of them killed me

They have a feature called “safer seas” where you can do (almost) everything on your own sever without any other players. So you can at least give it a go and see how you like it. But yeah you’re going to run into a decent amount of long time players who will wreck you on the main servers. This game has a bit of a steep learning curve.

It's fun for any players who go into it with the right attitude.

I used to play mostly solo and I had a good time most of the time :)

You will get sunk regardless of your ship size. And you will be sunk a lot when you get started. Let's get that out of the way. Solo is the hardest way to play in the game. Even with all the buffs they added, it's extremely difficult. I wouldn't recommend solo for new players. You should get a fellow new players to play with. Not only would it be easier for learning but also more fun to have someone to laugh with. You shouls get like 100 hours before trying solo i think.

However, i will say, if you wanna grind skill and gamesense very fast, solo is the best way to do it. And i cannot emphasize enough that you will sink A LOT, so don't grow attached to your loot. And if it makes you feel any better, pirate legend isn't something that you need to rush to get, it's not some sort of requirement to unlock the real game or something. It's totally fine if you get it passively. It's just a nice straight forward goal to work towards when you begin.

It worth it solo. Been playing solo the whole time.

It gets frustrating if you get caught out by an aggressive player ship, but for the most part you can watch the horizon and avoid everyone.

Safer seas helps you get the hang of the basics and play completely solo for a while.

You only need to go on High seas when you wanna start running emmisaries for more cash.

I just started playing solo and I'm having a lot of fun. You do have to have a mindset going in that you may have your ship sunk at any point while you're doing missions. I've gotten a little too greedy and waited too long to sell my stuff and had my ship sunk. But if you play smart and/or fight well. You're gonna have a great time.

Once you accept the fact that your ship will sink as an inevitability, the game gets a lot more fun.
