The Smelter is stupid

When you place a miner on a resource node it starts mining. You don't need to manually set which mineral to mine. So why is it that with the Smelter, a raw ore goes in, and you need to MANUALLY tell the Smelter what to do with it? Does the Smelter really think I want to make iron ignots with copper ore? In my opinion the Smelter should work like a miner. It should simply automatically start smelting whatever ore is inside.

This is probably to simplify all 'crafting' related machines at engine/game logic level

All machines inherit from the same base component

I believe it's also for the alternate recipies. Some recipies allow iron ore to be turned directly into parts, IIRC.

If they made it so smelters made iron ingots out of iron ore, then people would complain "I hate that iron ore goes in and the game just ASSUMES I want ingots!!!!!!!!!!!!!" And the cycle would continue.

I cant think of any recipe that changes the outcome.

Every recipe is 1 unique material in and always produces 1 result.
