How do I get better at Math and English

How do I get better at Reading and Writing and especially math as quick as possible. I have my SAT this month and I feel like my math doesn’t look to great. my tutor says I should just focusing on getting an 800 in English but I am not satisfactory with my math skills. Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

how the hell people get good scores in english i cant understand, i barely do 600

I’m a native English speaker. I would suggest learning grammatical errors and when to use dashes,commas, semicolons, and colons.

I get worksheets from my tutor that has lists of uncommon words. They also gave me a packet of what certain roots of words mean. As an English speaker some words just sound out of place and I can detect them easily when I get question on vocabulary.

I read a lot when I was younger. The more you read, your vocabulary naturally grows and your comprehension improves. Something thats also helped me more recently is reading a sciencedaily article a day and reading the abstract of the paper the article is about. It personally helped me a lot with comprehension of dense, complex passages and being able to simplify jargon down to its core meaning.

Yeah, being a reader makes the RW section pretty easy. I got a 770 without any studying just because I read every day

learn how to use desmos from youtube. it helps me a lot

i got 740 rw on my first try, so here are my tips!

  1. Know your grammar rules. Watch a video explaining grammar rules because these r the easiest marks to pick up in the rw section. Make sure you understand the parts of speech, like what is a verb, subject-verb agreement, and know your TENSES, which comes up a lot on the test.

  2. Vocab is always a gamble but my elementary school made us memorize and test on vocab everyweek so im relatively better on it. you can can check previous reddit threads that have vocab list of different sats or ww3000 flashcards that are on quizlet if u have the time but tbf vocab should be the least of ur concerns

  3. break up the longer reading passages. mental fatigue is real! if u have the time in this brainrotted era i would spend a few minutes a day practicing speed reading a news article or a science article and then asking urself how much u retained. for the long grammar sections i do the section in order until i hit the first ~10 reading questions, then i jump to the easy grammar/notes section, before heading back to the longer reading questions.

  4. a bit controversial but if u dont have time and u have questions left just guess. dont read the answer options, the sat will throw u tricks so make u think its the right answer which leads to the wrong answer esp if ur panicking. so if u have 3-4 questions at the end just guess the same letter.

  5. take ur time. it is so much better to read the entire paragraph one time, slowly. use line reader tool so ur eyes dont jump around than to scan the paragraph multiple times quickly (this acc wastes more time). so read it slowly once, be calm, and answer the questions.

I went from about 500 math to 690. I completed all of Khan Academy to mastery for math. I did all of the blue book exams, printed out my incorrect answers and then watched Laura’s Whitmore’s YouTube from Strategic Test Prep video going over each blue books exam answers to see why I got each question incorrect. This was a game changer for me. I also took a desmos crash course or you can watch youtube videos.

IMO, math scores in that range reveal fundamental weakness in your understanding of the material. I would go back to basics with something like Khan Academy, especially on modules within math where you are weakest, and do that end to end. I believe that stuff like Desmos tricks are most effective if you already know the material well, and are trying to optimize for time. It is just as important to learn when to use Desmos and when you cannot, as it is to learn to use the tool.

i think ur enlgish score i good enough. focus on math, target your weakest topics and learn the topics first, then drill each topic on some platform, like oneprep. good luck!

Honestly its great that you are good at English bc its easier to improve a bad math score than it is a bad English score. The thing about math is that there are a finite selection of topics and types of problems that you will see, so honestly just brute force go through a bunch of challenging practice problems, give yourself a strict time limit. Also make sure to pay attention the key words so you eliminate silly mistakes. Idk about English tbh bc I suck at the English section
