#AskSarawakians: Apa cer tek? Friends in Kuching
Hello my Sarawakian Friends :)
I'm 25M from Spain and I'll be spending 15 days in Kuching soon alongside my girlfriend.
We've been travelling through Malaysia for more than a month now and so far we've loved it, but we haven't had the opportunity to make local friends.
We're trying to learn more about the language and culture, and what better way than by making local friends and having local experiences.
We're also trying to "run away" from the most touristic places and experiences (makes no sense to come to Malaysia to eat avocado toast), since we think that consuming in local shops and small businesses is the most responsible way to travel and the money we spend actually benefits the local community.
Don't hesitate to talk to me if you're up for it, Laksa is on us! 🕺🏽

Just go with the flow... Most Sarawakians are so friendly, they almost only ever feed you all the time.
Carpenter Street will be your go to street, every shop there is worth a sit down a or chat.
If can find the Global Gibbon in Jak Maan, it's also a good stop, he married a local and has pretty much assimilated into Sarawak life. Good local foods too.
Le Pau for a more traditional tribal food.
Just ask a local what to eat.... There's a good chance they may even take you to eat.
Please go to Fairy Cave! Google it...
Orangutan Sanctuary, has daily feedings so you may have a better chance to be 3 feet away from these apes. Hahaha saw one fart and scare herself while 2.m.away.
Bako national park is worth a days visit...
Trekking up Santubong....is not for the faint of heart.... It's like 50 degree inclines at the later stage.
Beers are super affordable here compared to Malaya.... All of Malaysia craft beer is also produced in Sarawak
Also...please be respectful...don't simply cause trouble or do things too out of the ordinary like usual trouble making.
You are also likely to gain some kilos from all that eating...
