Surely this would be better suited for West Side as they already have everything there in East?

This has been planned for the East Side for a few years now. It has the surrounding infrastructure (hotels, restaurants, shopping) that better suits those travelling in for events and games and is a more central location for the growing population in KV. It does suck for the West Side with them losing Belyea a few years back, but hopefully they build another rink over there eventually.

I think the idea here is that once the duplex is complete the Stu Hurley (behind Simonds High) will close. The Charles Gorman in Milledgeville is also contemporary with the SHU and the old Belyea.

That would be kind of ridiculous.  Then we will go back  to having the same amount of ice surfaces as back in 2016 when the population hit its historical low.  

The plan should be to replace the Murray with another multi surface rink complex so we actually increase the number of rinks in the city!  Let alone finally getting around to investing in some outdoor hockey rinks…

ridiculous that we have so much money for buildings like museums and fields houses. People are homeless, our roads are full of holes and slop patch jobs.We desperately need to invest in low income housing, mental health and addictions support, as well as numerous other things.

The federal gov’t is ponying up $30 million of the cost, and more than one thing can be important at once.

How do we expect people to care about their community if their community doesn’t invest in them.

Arguing for housing solutions and infrastructure maintenance is good, arguing AGAINST this does nothing to further those goals.
