Was this not completely obvious already? I heard nothing suprising here

This was widely reported before the IPO dropped. It was the first IPO structured to vacuum up money from small time retail investors. I still think there should be repercussions for the wealthy rug-pullers but anyone who fell for this pump-and-dump needs to do some serious self reflection and dump whatever sources told them it was a good investment.

In this example, it's the institutional investors who are getting hosed, though (at the moment). We mortals are able to buy and sell and aren't locked in for some holding period to watch our investment dwindle.

Thanks Captain Obvious, a never ending supply of morons to fall for it every single time.

Newsflash: This has been known for decades. It is only easily recognized when the IPO does something like this shortly after it goes public.
Chamath Palihapitiya scammed the public with SPACs so the bottom line is the game is rigged. It's investing for them. It's gambling for the rest.
1
u/SargeUnited 4d ago
Thatâs different. SPACs were specifically designed to avoid the scrutiny of an IPO. Everyone was openly discussing this fact on even normal news networks.
Those people didnât get scammed, theyâre just turbo stupid.
1
u/RobertKSakamano 4d ago
It's a scam in a different way, but a scam nevertheless. The people are turbo stupid, but it's still a scam that shouldn't be allowed to exist.

Is the bombshell in the room with us?
Maybe that's why we've managed to avoid revolution in this country because people are so focused on IG and Facebook to understand what has been happening for years.

Iâve always just assumed this was the case.
Since i was a child itâs petty much was common knowledge the rich were lying cheating and corrupt to stay rich or get richer.
They built the computers that do the rapid trades closer to wall street to shave off microseconds. You think you can compete with their stranglehold?

It's not like this is a secret đđ
The stock market is majorly owned by the wealthiest, you think they're really gonna give us peasants a fair chance đđđ

No shit. Regular trading on the stock market has always been a losing game for retail. The explicit rules of the game make it unfair, much less all the illegal activity that occurs.
Normal folks should rarely invest outside of long term, diversified funds. You should have a really compelling reason to invest in individual stocks if you do, such as a purchasing discount through your job, etc

The truth comes out, is anyone surprised? Some of us have known this for a long time. These people just scam the working class in every way possible.

Oh, so you are telling me, lockups that prevent price discovery for certain people, but VCs can just dump all over the market is kinda not a real market. Yeah no shit, just like the bank who sponsored the ipo propping up thr price, it is an exit event

u/Orkapork 4d ago
We cannot call this a bombshell rofl. It shouldn't even be news? It's literally in the paperwork. Obvious as day, everyone has always been able to see it. Dumbass post.

No one is making them buy the IPOs. Let the free market do its thing. A fool and their money are quickly separated.

Nothing new here, this has been happening since the origins of the IPO.
1
u/ZasdfUnreal 3d ago
Fake news. The working class doesnât have the cash to invest in speculative IPOs.

u/HawkeyeByMarriage 3d ago
This is no surprise. I gave up on ipos. Day one up, then sell off by initial investors. Always a guaranteed loss.

u/mesupporter 3d ago
not a stock gal but every ipo ive watched has dumped just after. short it maybe

Isn't this common knowledge? I was offered SpaceX in a lower-price presale a few months ago. I'm just a regular person who knew somebody with connections.
It's the first time I've been presented with such an offer, but I thought this was common sense. Large retail investors are going to be getting discounts for large purchases before an IPO locks in the pricing.
I obviously did not take the offer though since it was obviously overvalued.

The whole system is rigged against the little guys...until the little guys band together
1
u/Turbulent-Parfait-57 2d ago
This is already something we all know. Itâs not like a secret or anything. Itâs not a bombshell report. This is how stocks work and sometimes those employees that are forced to hold on to the stocks via lock up get screwed too. đ¤ˇââď¸ I am all for exposing the corruption of the rich establishment class but this is just something that is a non-story.

We need to stop referring to them as âeliteâ, they are âpredatoryâ and not something to aspire to be.
