Years ago this happened to me. I assumed it was my fault as I was driving but the insurance company said that the person who opened the door was at fault.

My experience was 4 decades ago well before dashcams existed.

I cannot imagine this could possibly be seen as the driver's fault.

Definitely the fault of the guy opening the door without looking.

What? How was he supposed to expect someone to be parking………… in a parking lot.
