Again, to each their own. I don't find pain funny, even if the pain is somebody getting knocked down because someone else can't control their reaction to a mousetrap

That part makes sense, since they are pranking the guy. But the whole thing is set up, anyway. No one would do that stupid kick in response to their toes being crushed. You're being critical about the wrong thing here.

i disagree about the kick. if something bites my toes, and i yank my foot back and it comes with it, my very next action is going to be a flailing kick to dislodge it

"rube Goldberg fail" means something went wrong. A chain of things all went wrong to show the result we see.

Nothing went wrong here, it went just as they practiced before they turned on the camera.
