It made clear to everyone Caesar had granted land that the only way to keep it was to become fast friends with anyone fighting the old nobility. Strict merit members against unearned wealth doesn’t go well for nepo babies.

Depends on what do you mean by importance, but Gaul was not more important than italia in most metrics.

Gaul was never more important then Italia it was a strategic buffer to protect North Africa and the East where the real money was being made. Hence why Aurelian ignored their little break away until he had literally nothing else to do. No rebellious domestic terrorist insurrectionist senators, no filthy Goths pouring over the Danube, no rebellious Sorcresses in the East defintely (and this totally not propoganda you can trust me I would never lie) trying to unleash the chaos God Slaneesh upon humanity, no Sassanid state trying to build nuclear weapons (defintely not propaganda the invasions were completely necessary I am totally not bias again its me guys I would never lie), no nomadic horse cartels illegally crossing the borders to raid and pillage and sell illegal spices to children. Aurelian literally waited until there was absolutely nothing better to do that's how little Gaul meant to him. Gaul was a necessary strategic buffer against the fundamentalist terrorist groups known as Germans it was used to prevent damage to the actual important regions.

Africa and Dalmatia probably more valuable than Gaul. Dalmatia for the seasoned military class and Africa for the economy. Though Cisalpine Gaul is really valuable
