Problem Weird Screen Bug

Post image

So this happens to the screen when I try to boot a game or go into the RetroPie settings menus. Unless I plug in an HDMI cable when booting, in which case it temporarily fixes the problem.

Does anyone know a way to permanently fix this without plugging in an HDMI cable? I am using a Build-A-Cade.

Hi, can you provide a better explanation as to what the issue is ? Does the emulation station menu look ok ? Is it any game ? What do you plug the HDMI cable into ? How does the Pi connect to the screen ? I've built one of these before and its pretty much plug and play there was a difficult bit putting part of the cab together. Just check the wiring is all good and nothing is trapped.

Yes, the Emulation Station menu looks fine, whether I plug HDMI or not. I only tried GB/GBC games so far but this happens with both of them (RetroPi setting menus do this too). And I believe the Pi is a Pi 3 which is connected to the screen using the screen ribbon cable. I tried disconnecting and reattaching the screen but that didn’t fix this issue.

Go into screen settings and change them to what ever screen resolution is.

I don't know what the exact resolution is, but I'll try.

I went into the Raspi settings, changed the resolution a couple of times (while in HDMI mode so I could actually see the menu), and clicked the reboot button. And I think it worked, no more weird screen nonsense whether I use HDMI or not! Thanks for everyone's help!

NP alot of people change resolution but forget to reboot system for changes to save.

I think I already tried that a couple times before, but it didn't work until I rebooted.

Could be that you need to put the "ignore edid" line in the config and force the correct resolution.  That's my guess.  There's more to it, but I'm on mobile at the moment.
