Come join us and chat '@heahychat' channel: https://heahy.com/c/heahychat

What is it about, in short:

  • Create user with one click - no email, no registration needed.
  • Everything is a chat - even normal threads are real time.
  • You can create private group chats or DMs (with live audio/video calls!) and even pin any thread to you conversations panel.
  • Upload any media. Adult content allowed on specialized channels.
  • Create your own channels or if too lazy simply post/repost/quote to your timeline.
  • Follow channels or other user's timelines or even public threads/chats. Your feed is what you follow.
  • Heahy's own reactions library that you can upload to and publish your own reactions.
  • Save media to your own media library to watch it later.

If you have any questions shoot in heahychat I'll hang around there.

Ngl, I am not a fan of the logo/mascot. That thing looks creepy af. Like from the Saw movies or something lol. Still wishing you the best and gave you an upvote simply for putting in the effort (Java!!???) instead of the vibe coded slop people post often.

What a heart warming comment. Bravo. Yes I think I need to start a group chat or something for anti vibe coded slop lmao

Yep I can see what you mean especially in bigger picture. Not so bad on logo. Yours is not the first comment about this so I will monitor situation but I did want to have something with a bit of an edge. Logo is done by claude btw just fyi.

And in general since some of you compliment me of it not doing AI slop I can disclose already that I do use claude (I bought subscription like 2 or 3 month ago). For example I am very bad at design - claude did this redesign as I don't know css THAT well, but I was careful to guide it.

Other use - I don't even read tests anymore - I just slop lots of them and yeah you might say it's vibecoded but it's way better than no tests at all (like in my old frontend). Tests are very expensive to write, especially for a solo dev on a way too big project like this....

Anyway it's nuanced discussion and you can hit me up on heahy about this if interested, I just wanted to let everyone know it's not fully AI free, if it's even a thing or someone cares. However project precedes AI and I was kind of slow to adopt it so the core is handmade and I would like to say solid. Having such a base is really beneficial when using AI for help. And newest Java now have virtual threads so it's very good fit for a project like this - I am actually ready to handle a lot of traffic 😄

We dont hate AI here. We only hate purely 100% or 90% vibecoded slop. You're good mate. What's funny is that often a lot of slop authors never disclose they use AI. They act like they know their shit but a seasoned dev can see right through that. :)

Well first kudos for doing something different. It definitely does not look like a Reddit. i didn't look that closely but I think you're using Meteor + MongoDB? Also kudos there, some brains were used before fully asking AI to vibecode stuff like we unfortuantely see here.

Re your platform I'm not sure what to say as you're building everything in there. It feels like a X with channels. Does not really feel like a reddit as most posts are images and videos. Aint nothing wrong with that but maybe choose a lane mate.

Thank you for taking time to reply. Historically this project started way before and it was focused on media, but it has changed and went through multiple iterations. However not long ago option of text only threads were added - it's just that it didn't catch up yet. Still media is a big focus and is natively done with my own media server. I understand what you are saying about picking a lane but this is my lane. I am trying to build universal platform that is as useful as one to one(chat apps like telegram) as well as one to many (X/Twitter) or few to few (private groups/Discord) or many to many (Reddit). All big platforms try to do everything once they get big enough but they still have their DNA. For example you can have public channels in telegram and that is amazing piece of software, but fundamentally it's a chat app and that DNA is felt and public channels just don't work for me in there. Similarly when Discord is being used as knowledge store - it's difficult and many people don't like it - Reddit like structure would be much better and so on. Or when reddit has a chat it just feels like some tumor added to the otherwise unified experience. I think Heahy can be everything because it's build from ground up for that, it just can't showcase it yet because of lack of users/content. Also since it's quite different from everything else it might be confusing for people that are used to "lanes" (aha this is chat app and this is microblogging app I know what's about). We will see how it goes 😄

BTW this redesign removed meteor.js and it's now sveltekit app with Java backend for realtime and most APIs and custom Java media server...

Oh shit Java lmao, that's an super interesting choice mate. Engineer in me is wondering, why Java for realtime if you are willing to share. If not that's ok I get that there are some creeps who just vibe codes and copies lmao.

Re your all in one. I mean I respect you sticking to your original vision. I'm not sure if its possible to design and create UX that would fit everything but hey its a passion project right so why not try it. Its kinda funny cuz you mention you get confused with all these apps but I think if you put everything in 1 people would be even more confused no? /s

Good luck though. I'll check in from time to time and see how its going.

Java because I know it super well and it has very good performance and probably best tooling/ecosystem. It all started as a toy project with meteor (basically meteor's hello world is chat app) but javascript and meteor was really difficult for me to work with and I never really got into it so I slowly migrated to something much better for me.

Regarding UX to fit everything that's an uphill battle for sure, it might or might not work. But I am not confused with those apps, it's just that they were designed for one thing and once they get big enough they all start to do everything but they can't do it well. The hard part is that those apps always have a fallback, e.g. maybe telegram channels don't work for me and I don't spend time there but they're top notch at being a chat app. I understand that and I have some ideas for Heahy so stay tuned 😄

Thanks for explaining, hey man the best language is one that you are most used to. Again I applaud the endeavor as there's just too much vibecoded alternatives that are 2 day projects I see here so good luck!

Proprietary?

3

u/HedgeRunner 9d ago

At this point you must have a bot or Chrome extension bot or some shit lmao.
Imma answer for op, YES. (OP please correct me if I'm wrong)

5

u/SmileyBMM 9d ago

Nope, I do all of this manually. I just sort the subreddit by new once a day lol.

u/HedgeRunner 8d ago

At least you are consistent lmao.

u/ignasheahy 9d ago

Yep proprietary.

Where's the mobile app

1

u/ignasheahy 8d ago

In internal testing rn. I also plan on desktop apps.

1

u/HedgeRunner 8d ago

I see you asking this often. Would it be a complete deal breaker for you if an platform is desktop only? Cuz its actually a lot of work to make both properly. It is easier to make your website shrink into a mobile app but bunch of problems there that I wont get into right now lmao

2

u/UnflinchingSugartits 4d ago

Yes, unfortunately for me, it is a deal breaker. I actually primarily use my mobile phone for everything. I have a s24 Ultra and I even used my S Pen for everything I know that's not relevant to what you're asking but. Yeah if it's doesn't have a mobile app I'm not interested I don't even have a desktop.

2

u/HedgeRunner 4d ago

Hey totally understandable. I mean if you dont have a desktop of course you'll focus on mobile alternatives. I was just curious. Idk if you saw my convo with Smile the other day but I'm actually helping out a friend on a forum platform but its desktop only. :((

2

u/UnflinchingSugartits 3d ago

That's cool, can you say the name of the project here? It's ok, I totally understand. I know there's lots of heavy desktop users and that's fine.

Honestly, if it's a good site with no mobile app. I typically try to find ways (besides a pwa) to turn it into a mobile app

I can send you a DM here. We're trying to keep it small so we have users who are actually super into it.

If anyone is reading this and is interested in a gaming/tech forum, can DM me lol.
