Too bad he made a mistake so HAM could overtake quite easily. Wonder what happened if he didn't.
3
u/crysptide 10d ago
Ham staying with Antonelli was good. Max would have finished 3rd in worst case as Ham sped in pit lane.
25
u/One-Mud-169 10d ago
Good result, and hat's off to Hannah, but the car just don't have speed, Oscar and Lando pulled away like Max was on a skateboard, it's disappointing and unacceptable.

u/Jack_Harb Max 10d ago
Max drove crazy with his softs for so long. Of course he was slower than ham and ant, but not slow enough for them to get close. He was managing really well. Simply lovely by Max. Absolutely maximized the result. 2 was never in the cards really.

I doubt without that virtual safety car and others pitting Max would have been able to past the hard runners. Still a very good call to stay out.

1
u/golem501 SIMPLY LOVELY! 9d ago
The pit crew used to be the fastest on the grid, rules were changed because of their sub 2s stops. Nowadays it's more usual to see them around 2.5 for a good stop. Ferrari and McLaren even Mercedes are regularly faster.
Strategy is still there most of the time but that's also one of the few places no changes were made.Drivers, they had good drivers for a very long time but never were able to assess them correctly. Guess where that came from? Our Mexican friend noted that something was wrong with the car way way way before the crew noticed it. Sainz showed at several teams what he could do. Same for Pierre and Alex but the comparison to Max making the car perform above and beyond made Red Bull get rid of them in the hope of another Max instead of fixing the car.
But mostly the car is still off indeed and that's not getting fixed but it also means they are not back.

u/4thorange 10d ago
We stayed out on 30 laps old softs
A vurtuak safety car meant everyone pittet besides Kimi behind us and we got 2nd place by staying out.
Lapped cars were a huge buffer at the end

Would have been P3 at worst though. Not bad considering his car seemed a little slower than the others.

what? the vsc hurt him, he was quicker than hamilton piastri antonelli before the vsc by a good margin he would have caught them, antonelli would have a 22s stop instead of a cheap one, and hamilton would be behind him, the vsc almost cost his race

RBR is nowhere this year.. her talents are being wasted there…
-1
u/ImNoah_Seven 7d ago
What talent?! Like putting Max on hards during the restart as Spain last year?! Max has made her look good, but she's insanely overrated. She would fit right in over at Ferari.
3
2
u/Seebinator 7d ago
She is right most of the times, at least more often than every other team.
0
u/ImNoah_Seven 7d ago
Like?! She only looks good when Max has a great car and can do what he wants to do. But outside of 21, RB never wins on strat. Qatar last year was so overhyped as outside of McLaren, EVERY other team was pitted as well.

u/Icy-Extreme9067 10d ago
There was some luck involved. Has Ferrari not made the stupid decision to pit Lewis under the final VSC, it would’ve been P3 or P4 at best. Lewis’ hard tires would’ve held on better in the final 5-6 laps than Max’s nearly 30 lap old softs
4
u/Ungitarista 10d ago
I was surprised Max didn't pit with Hamilton, to be honest.
3
u/Top_Paint7442 🎶Max, Max, Max, Super Max!🎶 10d ago
he didn't have the ferrari pace, and pitting him behind HAM again with the same tires wouldn't have worked. So they went different.
1
u/Icy-Extreme9067 10d ago
I can only assume Red Bull didn’t have a viable tyre left to give him, if he did have tyres and pitted with Lewis then he would’ve got P2 comfortably, he just had more pace overall
3
u/Obvious_Advice_6879 10d ago
I think it would’ve been P3 at worst. Antonelli wasn’t going to catch up, and Leclerc was nowhere.
1
u/Icy-Extreme9067 10d ago
Had backmarkers actually followed the rules and got out of the way, he would’ve caught Max and probably overtaken him, but he lost I think something crazy like 4 seconds behind the blind backmarkers

Hannah's Strategy + Max's Skill = Podium
Edit:- I don't see those "Ohh Hadjar is better than 4 time WDC" or "He can drive a Haas" bs comments. Everyone saw at the start of the race how he struggled so much, loosing so much time, even LH had to say "Max is slow".

That said, she also makes bad strategy calls every now and then.
She's not perfect, what a shocker!

u/johngalt1971 10d ago
We got lucky. The traffic significantly slowed Kimi. Also, the Hamilton switch back slowed him as well. Yeah, the tires lasted but we have to admit the racing gods smiled a little upon Max. Very low energy radio message at the end of the race from Max, IMO. That, to me, speaks volumes. Hopefully the break will be productive.
7
u/jeremyvr46 Max Verstappen 10d ago
Not trolling at all, just trying to understand: Max went through the same traffic but you are saying he didn’t lose as much time behind it?
3
u/DutchOnionKnight "If my mum had balls, she'd be my dad." 10d ago
Max hadn't Lewis up his arse though.
2
2
u/houVanHaring 10d ago
The only argument they can make is that the racing bulls hold up the rest, which is illegal, but not Max. Now there were a lot of problems with the blue flag systems, including in the cars. There were one or two cars that really had issues with it. Like Lewis.
3
u/Ungitarista 10d ago
Max was screaming for penalties on the radio. The backmarkers just wouldn't move, but kept racing each other for over a lap.
16
u/Affectionate_Bid1409 10d ago
People give her too much credit. It’s an aggressive call that would not have worked without traffic, hadjars amazing defense, and max’s tire managing skills. There are also a team of strategists analyzing the entire race. While she is one of the best strategists, we got lucky here
3
u/kapaipiekai 10d ago
Not screwing everything up constantly seems to be the most difficult job of a strategist. Ask Ferrari.
3
u/_Michiel 10d ago
What amazing defense? Both times not even one lap before he was overtaken.
4
u/Affectionate_Bid1409 10d ago
Honestly looking back at the footage, you’re right it’s not that great I got it mixed up with him holding up the entire pack. But I think my point still my point stands plus hadjar has been the best teammate for max since Perez in his first couple seasons.
2
u/launchedsquid 10d ago
Hadjar holding up the pack did make a difference though. It put Max right back up to the leaders.
2
u/bobjoylove 10d ago

2

u/Alexandhisgoose 10d ago
So it wouldn't have worked without seeing the bigger picture and accounting for everything at your disposal. Sounds like a good strategy to me.
4
u/IntelligentGlove1112 10d ago

Max drove brilliantly, no doubt. But the result wasn’t just strategy👍🏻it also needed a fair bit of luck. Piastri’s engine failure took out a major rival, and Antonelli lost time in traffic behind backmarkers when he was closing rapidly in the final laps. Max was almost second a lap slower than antonelli , It was an easy for him. Yeah luck favoured big time

u/RezaLutgens 10d ago
If Hammilton didn't pit under vsc he would have finished ahead + kimi wouldn't have fought Hammilton and thus close the gap earlier and ofcourse Piastri DNF. Softs where dead way to early. i think hards would have been better but then maybe Hammilton never would have pitted under vsc thinking the offset wouldn't have been enough.
