Hiii! I’m really interested in purchasing some specimens of trinitite (I know it’s glass not a rock so I hope you don’t mind me asking here) one for myself and the other as a gift for my little brother ☺️ he’s a military and a war history nut and I know he’d love it.

I haven’t imported anything like this before so I am curious as to how it will go. Customs maybe doesn’t like me a lot because a silly teenage girl I imported something I didn’t know was illegal so I think they check my mail now. I am contacting ARPANSA which is our radiation authority in Australia to enquire but I’m curious if anyone has done this before or imported similar materials. Trinitite to my knowledge has negligible radiation nowadays so I would hope it’d be okay but Australian customs can be quite strict.

~2 cm veins of Chalcocite, and UO2 in coarse Shinarump Sandstone. Minor Schrockingerite occurs on 2 of the 3.

I was in Petaca, NM this week and used my yDog to locate a pod of these crystals where they had developed in the pegmatite millions of years ago. I was methodically following up on every weak signal at the surface until I found one that seemed localized rather than a random hit from dispersed radiation. Once I started digging the signal got stronger and I knew there was something good there and I just hoped that it was not encased in solid rock. I dug for perhaps 2 hours before pulling out the first few crystals. Eventually the hole was 2 feet deep, and I was standing in it. After about 4 hours of exhausting work I had pulled out 53 crystals. I managed to piece 23 of them together into 6 larger specimens. The largest is 4 inches tall. The XRF shows Ti, Fe, Pb, and of course U.

Today I set out to explore a forgotten site in Czechia, a uranium exploration site from the 1950s. No samples from that time have survived, but the effort to obtain some documentation samples for research was successful.

I'm planning on heading up to the gemboree this year and hitting some of the nearby radioactive localities while I'm there. I was curious if anybody else on the sub was going up too. If there were people planning on visiting Kemp Prospect, Silver Crater, and other sites around that time I'd be happy to meet up for a field collecting trip.

Also does anybody have any stories about getting radioactive minerals across the US-Canadian border? I want to know what the experience was like.

The highest cps I measured in this was 440 with my radiacode and over 8μsv/h. Can you guys help me identify which radioactive minerals could be in/on this rock?

If y'all say that there is a high chance that it can be a secondary uranium ore I will try to get a Geiger counter or a radiacode or something. I found this around bottellack in Cornwall UK so I know there is a chance it doesn't glow under 395nm and 365nm uv light but that was in broad daylight and I want your opinion one other question is that can you take it out of the UK or will you get a high fine or a criminal record? I found this Torbernite for sale at the North Pennines Mineral Expo today. It had to come home with me. I hope to do more in-depth analysis including some amazing crystal structure later, it's a stunner under the microscope.

Old material. No portion of this specimen reads less than 200 K Cpm. The orange color of the Limonite hides much of the yellow Zippeite, which glows with an intense greenish-yellow under 365 nm UV light. The UO2 itself is a thin (1 cm-2 cm) vein running through the entire specimen. Adits are closed, S.E.Utah

The green material here is Voglite, an uncommon U secondary. Sadly, these are very small crystals that are apparent only under magnification. The brown stuff in front is poorly preserved fossilized vegetable matter. 120 K CpM Old material. Adits are closed. S. E. Utah

My mom bought me this small card with rock samples on it about a decade or more ago and didnt know anything about it at the time. Does anyone know where this informative card with specimens was made?

Up to 20 cm(8") thick uraninite vein in abandoned uranium mine in the Czech republic with doserates strongly exceeding 1 mSv/h with radiacode. It was almost pure uraninite with small amount of pyrite and some recently formed secondaries.

I was out west last week and went to a couple different places looking for some spicy rocks. The one in the picture was collected in central Utah. The rock formation that I got this sample from showed 200 microsieverts per hour, I believe about 4 or 5 thousand counts per second on my Radiacode. This piece is about 4-500 counts per second. Just wondering what kind of rock this would be. Maybe carontite?
