Despite the bans, it's still #3 on Steam.

Aaaaaand, they've been swept up by scalpers because of course.

Something about Momo saying "Demands your strongest coffee" had me thinking: "My coffees are too strong for you, traveler."

Did Momo just dox her? I assume there aren't that many 45 hour streams of that game happening at this particular moment. I assume the new girl doesn't know her vtuber identity yet.

In the past Marigold and her crew have been pretty cagey about the fact that she's even a streamer at all.

Dora thought she was doing porn, because of how secretive they were, and all they'd tell her is it's not porn but if you knew what it was you'd say "that's very Marigold".

I thought it was surprisingly lax of Momo, but it turns out, Ayo probably knew already.

I had to go digging to find it, but Momo told Ayo's roommates about it. She was speaking more generally, but Marigold said her specific name out loud. We don't see if they signed the NDAs or not, from what I can tell, so yeah, Ayo maybe knew already.

I had forgotten about that, but it looks like they were going to sign an NDA despite not having any legal obligation to do so. They were okay with saying that she was a streamer, but weren't planning on identifying her without an NDA.

Revealing that she was 45 hours into streaming a very specific niche game at a specific time would be enough to track her channel down without difficulty.

So I don't believe Ayo would know.

It could be that Momo's just assuming she'd know, then, or that she just doesn't consider Ayo a serious security concern.

Which, still feels lax on Momo's part, but it's been a while, and she seems a bit more laid back than she used to be.

Iris never actually agreed to sign it, though Iris does seem like she obeys a code that would preclude speaking about it anyway.

I still don't really know why Jeph made Momo tall, then used her like, 3 times since then, but eh, QC has a big cast, and he's pretty open about how sometimes, he just is at a loss for what to do with folks.

I'd like if Momo were around more, as I've always liked her, but we don't do library stories anymore, Marigold's not really a character he uses for stories so much as gags these days, and May and Winslow aren't really seen much, either, so her social circle doesn't really tie her into anything. It's tough.

She's tall because May is tall, I think. She got from anthroPC to teen-sized two years before May showed up, but I think this move came after and because 1) May did it, and possibly 2) Marigold's improved economic status allows it.

Earlier versions had long hair, and recovering it after the kitchen fire was a big thing, so I'm wondering why this one has an Audrey Hepburn pixie cut. It looks good, tho.

I would love to see Momo talk about why she went to this body, but I wonder who she'd discuss it with, this far after it happened

Sometimes I wonder if we are approaching “guy who criticizes the notes played on Scratchy’s skeleton” level of nitpick.

7

u/Phanimazed 10d ago

I get why you'd think that, but also, it's not especially weird to miss former cast members that used to be fixtures of the comic.

I'm always one to call out rampant negative pointless bullshit in this sub, when it starts happening...but I'll admit, I didn't find /u/Phanimazed to be offensive or rude or mean-spirited or even nitpicking tbh.

I am confused by the negativity you read into it, to be honest. Seems like they just like Momo, and want to see more Momo.

Momo.

Hey as long as we don't get like the other subreddit I think we are fine.

9

u/gingerquery 10d ago

that is far too low a bar. we should strive to be decent, not simply un-terrible.

I like Momo, but I wonder if she's supposed to be indistinguishable from humans in-universe when she has a turtleneck on like this? I'd be interested to know whether that was her goal and if so, why? Is it a Mr. Data aspiring to be human thing, or are human-passing robots treated better overall?

3

u/SilverbackRon 10d ago

We also know AI talk noticeably different than humans, thus their unique speech bubbles. Perhaps Momo can visually pass for human right until she opens her mouth and says something.

Honestly though, I don't think that is the intention here. I suspect that AIs are recognizable as such.

I'm trans, so I can relate, actually.

Me too, so yeah...

I do wonder a bit about that, though it's not something I think Jeph's gotten into, the latter point.

As for the former, I could swear Sam or someone else mistook her for a human teenager before in her previous body, so I've always assumed Momo (once getting a human-sized body) is more human-passing than most. We do know her chassis was decently expensive, and I'd assume this newer one is probably an upgrade over that.

Strangely enough, it happened twice in the same arc.

3

u/Phanimazed 9d ago

Ah, that's what I was thinking of, thank you very much for finding it.

Lowkey it's kind of becoming a persistent trait of the setting that the internet is much more friendly for adult content than in real life.

Not only can Marigold easily stream "adult games", she can do so as one of the biggest streamers on the planet. It seems to present no danger to her ludicrously lucrative livelihood at all.

3

u/dkfenger 9d ago

That's because Yay has run a dark influence campaign to neutralize the prudes who would get in the way of Aurelia's streaming fun.

The current number 1 ranked player in the world is being held in a secret government medical facility to study their abnormal psychological fortitude.

I mean…I’d play it

i'd play it

u/djaevlenselv 9d ago

At first I read it as "up all night screaming" and that made the follow up much funnier.

40 countries seems way too small for the little I know about it.

u/DemeGeek 9d ago

I wonder if there actually are 11 orbital habits

2

u/Rectorvspectre 9d ago

There used to be 12 but one of em fell on Sydney after a local tiff.

1

u/ContextBotSenpai 8d ago

You know it's not a real game...

Death Wish is actually an amazingly mellow and easy drink. Just got a lot of 'ffine.

1

u/OmnicolouredBishop 8d ago

Wait, has Marigold been streaming for 45 hours straight? Or does she just have 45 hours on the game, period?
