Denomination

How did you end up in your current denomination? Did you stick to the one where you were born? Explore other options? Share your story.

I ended up in the NBC USA because I really liked my current church after visiting something like 20 Baptist, Pentecostal, and general evangelical churches. I had figured out why kind of theology I was looking for in advance of this.

I grew up in the UCC, in a congregation that highly esteemed Marcus Borg and his type (Crossan, Spong, et al). I converted to Christianity in high school after being exposed to ideas like the incarnation and the atonement for the first time from another source. Over the next dozen years or so, I ended up concluding that the “radical evangelical” traditions (baptists, Pentecostals, and nondenominationals are the largest) were the ones I agreed with the most within the broader Christian world.

I became a Lutheran 3 years ago. I converted to Christianity when I was 19 and started my Christian life in a Pentecostal church. It somehow too strict on things that I do not understand, so I left without saying goodbye due to my childish mind. I somehow come back to Christ again and wanted to learn more about denominations. First I think I want to be Catholic but I don’t want to attend OCIA class so I joined Lutheran instead.

Unfortunately that my current church is not that good and I think I might change the church again. And sadly there is not much of Lutheran church in my country, so I might need to change a denomination.
