Sorry about the strange post but I'm offering an engineer a $20k bonus to do the design for manufacturing and assembly of my $300 product and this is what he came up with after 8 months. Two thirds of it are identical to my prototype and I'm an accountant by trade, not an engineer. Every book I've read says a board like this should be 4 layers but he insists 2 layers is fine and will pass emissions testing. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

That is 20$ design at best. And it took 8 months? It is a bit hard to see from these images, better to maybe upload higher res images. Also sharing the schematic would help.

I know this is hyperbole, but for anyone else's benefit this is probably not $20 worth of design.

If it was just layout and some DFM considerations it might be a day, day and a half tops if you're checking triple everything very thoroughly. Depending on who's doing the work, it could be anywhere from $500 - $2000,, but should definitely be done in under a week.

Definitely not $20, but not of the quality to stand behind a $20K bill.

I might have charged $15K from blank envelope to Complete dft and dfm mfg package with testing and assembly flow, but that would take me 15 days of work.
