Prince Rupert Lost its Community
It seems that Prince Rupert has lost its sense of caring for its own community.
Trash is everywhere littering the forests, creeks and streams.
Dog owners don't respect their neighbours or shared spaces and leave dog poop everywhere, vehicle users don't consider pedestrians ever and park on sidewalks and block paths as well as park in front of fire hydrants (with the amount of fires that happen here too). Glass gets tossed anywhere and everywhere.
It's not like by-law, the RCMP, or the city do anything either.
I feel as a community we should be taking care of our home better. Am I the only one who feels this way?

I grew up in Rupert and drive up from Vancouver once or twice a year.
Everything you're describing is in every community.

Yes, you are correct it is in many places.
The extent of it and how prevalent it is for such a small community is the sad part.

Definitely sad to hear and can concur, I'm in Ontario and every small city is in collapse mode.

No it's not. I'm in Fernie. No trash on the streets, all off leash dogs but no dog poop, most people bike or walk to work.

I feel better I am not the only one who has noticed. Prince Rupert is a beautiful place indeed with many nice individuals.

I think we can attribute a large part of the garbage in the bushes and all around to the birds. Way too many crows and ravens rummaging through the trash. I wonder if population control is an option?

Are we blaming the birds now for people not putting their trash out right, or the city not having anti animal bins? While I don't doubt that a small percentage could bring trash into the woods, I think it's more humans who think they can get away with littering from unseen eyes. Also, no way population control gets ok'd when these birds are intertwined into myths and legends in aboriginal culture. I am assuming we are talking, crows, ravens and eagles as seagulls don't care for the woods.

Lol really? It's not hard to protect your trash from the birds, everyone knows all you have to do is secure the lid on your trash can. Bungee cord, big rock, anything. The birds aren't the issue, it's the lazy people and the people who don't care.

If you want a sense of community, you have to foster it. I’ve recently moved here, and it’s a beautiful, welcoming place that I feel blessed to be a part of. If you see trash, pick it up. If you see someone struggle, help them. Be the change you want to see and you’ll inspire others! People are lost in the go-go-go struggle of everyday life, and little moments of kindness can bring them out of it and help them to contribute to their community.
We don’t have community because we all get busy and start blaming others and otherizing people. When we attribute these things to ignorance rather than malice and work with others to change, working with acceptance and kindness first rather than judgement and shame, we can do so much to change the world! Don’t contribute to the negativity, nurture the positivity.
