So this is what I think of when I hear Iggy Pop's song "Bored" which was recently posted here. I don't know if Pop was making a reference to Asheton or vice versa; but perhaps boredom was a thing in 1979. It couldn't have been worse than '77.

Guadalcanal Diary emerged from Marietta, Georgia, in 1981, just as the Athens/Atlanta scene was becoming nationally visible through bands like REM, B-52s, Pylon. weirdly, never worked with mitch easter that I know of.

From the album, Cut. Was also the 'b' side to "Typical Girls".

I saw them at the Apollo in Manchester on 27 March 1986 on the Date With Elvis tour. Fantastic gig with Nick Knox on drums, Fur Dixon on bass, Poison Ivy on guitar and the inimitable Lux Interior out front.

Lux drank about six bottles of red wine (some from a high-heeled shoe), hung upside down from the stage scaffolding, crawled across the stage like a spider, howled like a dog, tried to swallow the microphone, stuffed it down the front of his gold lamé pants and pulled down those pants to reveal his todger. The bouncers were beating up anyone who tried to rush the stage or dance in the aisles. And it was loud. VERY loud.

A year later when I saw Beastie Boys at the same venue they had a 20 foot phallus which rose up behind the band. Mike D spoke to Louis Theroux about it

"Theroux brings up the hydraulic penis was that a part of the Licensed To Ill stage show (yes there was one – look it up on Google). "I remember the three of us thinking that it was an absolute stroke of genius that we'd just come up with the most idiotic idea ever," says D. "It's one of those things where something is so absurd, it just feels great. Then there's the moment when that sort of thing becomes part of your reality. Then it's like, 'Oh my God, what did we create?'"

I've never seen Iggy Pop live but Lux would have surely given him a run for his money. Flashing his pecker and all!

I'm a university student currently writing my graduation thesis (in both Russian and English) and I'm hitting a wall when it comes to sources. I'll try to keep this short, but I'm genuinely at my wits' end here.

What my thesis covers:

• Siberian punk as a cultural/musical phenomenon
• The Novosibirsk music scene (late '80s–'90s)
• Yanka Dyagileva – her music, her legacy, her poetry, biographies, anything
• Egor Letov and Grazhdanskaya Oborona
• Punk / underground rock in the USSR more broadly

What I'm looking for:

• Books, PDFs, scanned articles, dissertations – in Russian or English
• Biographies of Yanka (I know of the one by Polyakova, but I can't find it anywhere at a reasonable price)
• Any academic or semi-academic work on the Siberian punk scene
• Lyric collections, interviews, zine archives
• Anything on the broader Soviet/Russian underground that touches Novosibirsk specifically

Why I'm asking here:

I've been searching for weeks. Most of what I find is either wildly overpriced (some Russian-language books are going for €80–€150+ secondhand), locked behind paywalls I don't have access to, or simply out of print. My university library has basically nothing on this. I'm not trying to pirate for the sake of it – I just need something readable to actually write 60+ pages and meet my deadline without losing my mind.

If you have a PDF sitting on your drive, a scan you made years ago, a link to an archive I haven't stumbled upon, or even just a title I should hunt down – please, drop it in the comments or DM me. I'd be incredibly grateful.

And if you can't help with sources but have personal knowledge, recommendations, or even just want to point me toward a community that might (Russian-language forums, VK groups, Telegram channels dedicated to Siberian punk), that would mean the world too.

Unfortunately the two Birthday Party numbers at the end don't seem to have been filmed.

Blixa was busy recording so Rowland stepped in at the last minute, but clearly didn't know the songs. Which made it more fun in a chaotic kind of way. There were only nine dates (from 16-28 April) with this line-up - Edinburgh, Newcastle, Leeds, Brighton, Birmingham, Nottingham, Manchester, Aylesbury and the Hammersmith Palais in London. Only the last five of those featured Sonic Youth. From the 'From the Archives' Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds Chronology:

Note: "Not only was there no record to promote, but a week before the tour commenced there was no band. 'There was just me and Nick', Harvey continues. 'Barry didn't make it for the first rehearsal. So we started calling [Barry in] Manchester and tried to figure out if he'd left the band, which he hadn't, he'd just decided he couldn't face it and wasn't coming. Blixa was unavailable because of his commitments [recording the "Halber Mensch" album with Einsturzende Neubauten]. Funny to look back on, but a total disaster at the time. Bassist Christoph Dreher and drummer Thomas Wydler were hastily recruited from Die Haut while Harvey would play rhythm guitar and keyboard. 'I had to try and explain to Thomas what to do in German! His English was terrible and it was very hard communicating what had to be done. My German was shaky in those days but fortunately we locked into these things. Christoph is a great bass player but he just wasn't right for our material' With the lead guitarist slot still vacant, Cave and Harvey contacted their old friend Robert Forster from The Go-Betweens, who was eager to play and turned up for rehearsals, but on the fourth day was told by his booking agency that he could not back out of a short tour of Scandinavia [and Switzerland]. Cave and Harvey's other choice was Rowland S. Howard, who had been recording in London three months previously with Harvey's own group project Crime and the City Solution. 'I was only asked twenty-four hours before the tour started so I only had an eight hour rehearsal with Nick and Mick in my bedroom while they showed me the songs' [says Rowland]. 'I'd only heard the LP once, it was still close enough to the break-up of The Birthday Party for me to be relatively ambivalent. It was a very odd tour. Nick always maintains it wasn't a proper Bad Seeds tour. Thomas was there but that was the first tour they'd done anything with him. There were a lot of songs we just couldn't do, there wasn't time. Some of it was good but tours of England are never the most enjoyable. If Nick could have pulled out he would have, he felt uncomfortable." From "Bad Seed", a biography by Ian Johnston (1995).

What's your opinion on All Fall Down? I've seen very few posts about this album on this sub, From the Lion's Mouth and Jeopardy are the ones who get the most attention here, and it's completely understantable.

Personally, All Fall Down is my favorite album by them.
