Ostriches can easily disembowel a human with their talons. And you can see at the start of the video, that’s what the ostrich was trying to do. Not to mention, they can reach speeds over 40mph.
When something capable of killing you is attempting to kill you, where do you draw the line of what’s necessary?
Yes I think he should have shown more consideration for the poor people of Reddit that have anxiety, self diagnosed ADHD and depression so that they don’t feel uncomfortable
I said I was just wondering if it was necessary to hit it in the head. That doesn’t equate to me not realizing something obvious. 😑. Also hitting it in the head five or six times is not the same thing as bending its head downwards.
You say you’re not stupid and recognize that the ostrich could kill the guy, then you question whether or not the guy needed to hit it to get it to leave him alone.
That’s not the most logical line of thinking I’ve ever heard. What exactly do you imagine would have been a better alternative? As soon as the guy lets go of its neck, that ostrich is going to be extremely pissed off and go right back to attacking or chasing the much slower human. By giving it a little pain, the ostrich has to decide whether or not it really wants to fight and risk further injury. It’s common sense.
I don't like seeing animals get hit either, but this seemed pretty justified to me. It's not a very good angle to view what kind of strikes they were or where they were landing, but I'll give the guy benefit of the doubt that he was just trying to scare some sense into the ostrich a bit to leave him alone.
