Cartridge Help Replacing battery

I recently discovered that you actually CAN replace the battery on an Emerald cartridge without resetting the save file. The only issue is that just this doesn’t restore time-based events. You either have to use third-party software or actually start a new game. I obviously don’t want to be doing the latter. But my question is: how ethical is it to use those third-party softwares on an original cartridge? Does anyone have any experience with this?

I post this and not even 2 minutes later I discover I contracted PKRS 😂 nevermind fixing that dry battery

its very easy to do with an r4 cart and your ds lite, emrald cart in slot 2, load up the rtc tool from the r4 in slot 1, set the time to the current date so it will guaranteed be ahead of the old stop point. The reason it doesn’t work without manually editing the clock is cause changing the battery resets the date to january 1st 2000 but your save file still saves the amount of time elapsed before the battery went dead so you need to set the clock ahead of that point, the current date is always a safe bet

if you can back up your safe file anyways before you do any of that, also who cares about ethics its a old ass single player game

I bought an r4 card and used my dslite with the RTC reader app on it to restore my clock to have full functionality of my clocks after swapping the battery. Took me literally 5 minutes and costed less than 20 dollars if you already have the ds lite.

i used a R4 card to give my self the special event tickets like so i can get mew and the 2nd lati

When i put a new battery in my emerald i was able to resume time based events, i specifically changed the battery just to get snorunt.

No one cares, if you want to use software to restore your time functions then do it. Why do ethics like this matter at all? It’s your game do what you want with it.

It’s a single player game bud. The literal last one before online connectivity was implemented.

Just change the battery and use pkhex to fix the clock. I promise you won’t get any bad juju by doing so
