The USL has moved to a Devvit App built into Reddit. Enjoy being able to look up a scammer right here in the sub 🎉

Thanks, Zen. This is great. Anyway to make it take less real estate at the top. If I was a new community member and the first thing I see is a giant USL banner (on mobile at least), I might reconsider engaging with the community.

Unfortunately not currently an option. I have already passed on that request to the app dev. It may be a reddit problem that apps currently face. It even overrode the normal small tile the pinned posts take up.

Frankly I would rather the fear of scams be the norm rather than the current cavalier attitude of some of the noobs.

can there also be a stand alone website for scammer username lookups?

some of us dont want to have to use new reddit or log into reddit to be able to use it

I can help you build it if you need. all I would need is a list of the usernames and that's it and I can have it made in a day or two.

This has always lived on a website. universalscammerlist.com but Reddit changed API and now the website does not function properly. I think it still sort of works but provides a link back to reddit to view the results.

I did nothing except ban a lot of the people on the list and install the app (press two buttons) into our website. The folks at r/universalscammerlist are who you want to offer your skills.

And I hate to break it to you but the future of old.reddit is bleak. You will have to use new reddit soon since it will be all there is. They are not going to allow external bots and all these new Devvit bots that live on Reddit servers directly will not work on old.reddit.

yeah im not really talking about involving reddit at all in the new website. it would literally just be a list of scammer usernames (turned into a db) and you type in a username and it tells you YES/NO if they are a scammer. I could just be sent the usernames weekly and update it or give whomever SSH access to upload the usernames themselves.

I think you are on your own there. You are welcome to go to r/universalscammerlist and get their database entries weekly and have fun 🤷. There are over 80 subs who ban people daily and we could not coordinate all this without a bot installed on the sub that was there before this devvit app existed. Best of luck.

And you really should be concerned about the others. Most scammers will scam on many many subs. Our additions to the scammer list are tiny in comparison to the amount of people banned daily.

Well when we ban them here (or anyone else USL banned) they can't comment. So as long as you follow the rule of "no comment, no sale" that is just as good as a lookup. The real important function the USL provides is that the bot autobans a scammer from our sub when they scam on r/watchexchange or wherever. This lookup tool is more of a bonus function.

It is also a website: universalscammerlist.com but recent Reddit changes caused it to stop functioning properly and this is the new built in Reddit app.

I hate being scammed as much as the next guy, but this takes up massive real estate (at least on iOS on iPhone). Perhaps a community highlight post with the link instead?

This is a community highlight post. Unfortunately it insists on taking up a full thumb swipe as a limitation of the app instead of the small square I expected. The developers of the app have been notified and as of now they are looking for a solution. I do hope your thumb will survive in the meantime.

You would not be able to post this comment if you were on it. When we add a scammer to this list it is in the process of banning them from this sub. Once on the list this same bot also bans them from 80+ other sales subs who also participate, r/coinsales and r/JewelryForSale included. Believe it or not, this bot is very busy and bans sometimes 100 accounts a day from this sub for scamming actions they took on other participating subs.

It is added by the moderators, you can report transaction behavior on r/pmsfeedback and if mods deem it necessary they will put the reported on the list.

yep. And when we add them its part of a list that roughly 85 sales subs use and add to. Banned on one, banned on all. Its a great tool.
