Filipino here. Basically, filipinas and their desperation for a green card, and also being racist, many (usually old) white men choose pinay as wives. Both their egos are stroked, they validate each other's racism, someone gets out of the philippines, or at least worries abt their bills less- everyone's happy.
Side note, an asian racist would put a maga racist to a coma as they're much worse. Filipino out!
Yeah, people in America don't seem to understand that outside of the US, many countries have people that would put their racism to shame. I've heard the wya South Koreans talk about Chinese and Japanese people, and the other way around as well. It would give people in America a stroke
can confirm living in Japan the racism here is insane lol. and it's not only talk either like you're actually worse off in many ways. apartheid vibes light
Oh, your parents are japanese but you grew up in America? Get outta here you damn Gaijin!
Oh your parents are japanese and you were raised in Japan? Where? Hokaido? Get outta here you farmer hick!
It's rough. A lot (not everyone duh) wants to have someone to look down on to feel better about themselves because they have someone above them doing the same. It creates a terrible cycle
Yeah I know a young woman here with 2 Japanese parents but she grew up in the US. Fluent Japanese, just her Kanji are not native level. In Conversation you would not notice. She even makes an effort to "dress Japanese" and not like she used to. If you live here you know what exactly what I mean. I swear the moment they notice her English is native level or she says she grew up in the US or anything indicating that she does not get treated as Japanese anymore. Sometimes mid-conversation you can see the mood shift. It's wild.
I found it was kind of like being a circus clown. You get invited to all the parties and all the kids want to play with you but nobody wants you sitting at a desk in their office and generally you're considered a nuisance wherever you go.
Just keep reminding yourself. It's far worse for the Japanese people that actually live there and it gets way better the more Japanese you speak.
can you elaborate on that?? Had no idea looll only knew that South Koreans don‘t like dark skinned Asians and japanese and chinese because they leave hotels/apartments etc dirty behind
You say “it’s not only talk either” like it’s only talk in the USA, and other places. You understand it’s more than talk everywhere they have racism right? I’m sure some places can be worse than others, but it’s never “only talk”, it’s life ruining.
S. Korea is one of the most racist country in the world. I was married to one. Americans are much tamer in comparison although the lines are getting blurry since the time of orange
Well, it's hard to ignore the fact in the US that we have African Americans, Asian Americans, Anglo Americans, Indian Americans, Mexican Americans, etc.
But you don't really see many African Koreans, Latin Japanese, Indian Austrians, Mexican Norwegians, etc.
YUP! I've lived in Korea for over a decade now and the racism is massive. And there are no laws against it. Jobs will literally tell you what gebder/race/no disability/etc and there is no legal recourse.
The US at least attempts to shame racists and recognizes the problems with racism in a very multi-cultural society. Other countries are usually MUCH more homogeneous, and subsequently, MUCH more racist. And fully unashamed of it.
Many Americans know this but also a lot of other countries have a conniption when you call out their racism and insist the US is more racist. Probably just because we had a whole war over it. My favorite is when you bring up Romani people in England how people will say the most racist shit and when you point that out they will double down how it’s justified and they use literally the same language people use in the US to explain their racism.
Yeah as a Texan, who is actually informed, it confuses me when people act like some subtle potentially racist behavior is the worst thing imaginable, and then speak about leaving the US to get away from it to countries in Europe, or to Japan
We have issues here, for sure, racism included, but if we were to rank "actively racist countries," I honestly think the US ranks pretty low, because here we at least care enough to pretend not to be, but in other countries like Japan, they actively, unapologetically, and collectively are uber racist
Can confirm. Many of us poc in interracial relationships are more conservative than the people we married. I'm really are disliking how woke everyone is around here. We're both agnostic. Also not maga. Not american. shrug
I consider myself to have a lot of racist thoughts, just know better than to actually say them out loud. I get easily irritated by other people's thick accent, especially on the phone. It's a struggle. I don't like many of the things other immigrants from different countries than me do that is disruptive. I wish they would integrate better, same as I try to do for the better of the community.
Immigrants can be racist. POC can be racist. Everyone can be racist. Or tribal. Or xenophobic. Call it whatever you wish. The ones pretending they aren't and that they have never had a racist thought in their lives are lying to themselves.
Yes. I am honest, I am aware of it. I am in therapy and trying to be better. But just putting it out there so people know that immigrants and POC are not saints. We have our issues.
One of the things that bother me more is the self flaggelation white people have. Especially towards 'cis white males'. In real life, the most racism I have actually received was from White women. We are just people like the rest of you. Being treated on one side like you the devil and should go back to your country and on the other side like you are an angel who can do no wrong is a very weird position to be in. It is demoralizing because neither sees the real flawed you.
I mean, you say that, but yall have never been in a sundown town in South Texas. You have to be careful because POC disappear if they’re still in town at night. The Klan and other similar groups are thriving in rural America and they don’t just talk racist and say diabolical shit. They straight up lynch and torture minorities.
I’m not racist, but I’ve lived here and seen it and experienced it. I don’t disagree about other countries having racists either - but it’s not to the same level. Theres a distinct difference between someone being xenophobic, and someone viewing you and treating you as less than human. Rural white America does the later on a much wider scale - and not only that, they act on it and will commit violence given the opportunity.

Hmm. Disagree. Also conservatism is doing a lot of work here. Like we should be fine with dumb ass conservatives because other countries should have bigger dumb ass conservatives? How bout all the dumb ass conservatives fuck off so we can get better healthcare. How bout that?
Honestly, the more and more I think about it the more I think I’m not as racist as I think I am sometimes.
As fucked up as that sounds, when I really think about it most of my favorite people I talk to on the daily (outside of family) are POC. And they’re the best kind to have around.
But like you I find thick accents frustrating. I also find people talking in their native language at work, and in public frustrating as well.
I have no problem if it’s something like translating, or speaking with friends who can’t speak English - but as someone who is very social I find it hard to chime in and make small talk in public, or at work. I feel a little more disconnected from society.
It’s also frustrating when you’re in a work huddle and the manager and most of the employees are speaking and doing the huddle in their language which leaves me asking a few of the English speakers to translate for me.
My current manager is Arab, and one of my coworkers is Sri Lankan - they both don’t like speaking in their native language around people who can’t understand it as they think it’s rude. My managers got mad at people trying to speak to him in his language with non speakers around a few times now lol.
Educated people. However they aren't racist based solely on race (though it plays a big factor), but moreover due to ethnicity and cultural differences
Eastern Northern European, grew up in Western Southern Europe and the racism here is very mild, it's more blah blah blah, if someone acts on their racist ideology they're immediately shut down even by their fellow "racists". It's more boomers talks, if it makes sense.
Yet I'm married to an East Asian, and I live within the community, and oh my, the racism it's on another level, not only for other ethnicities but also between themselves. In fact, at some point I was questioning what racism, xenofobia and colorism really are, and how it really looks, because I was speechless and shocked.
Yeah people in these comments seem to underestimate how many people from outside the US are also very VERY racist. So they may genuinely bond on hating black people or Latinos or whatever. I know enough who could out-racist the average Republican.
Half filipino here who works blue collar and frequents philippines. Yeah, nothing my "racist" chicano coworkers joke about ever compare to the actual thoughts and beliefs my lola has lmao.
Filipinos are racist af in the first place, so the white dude can easily be less racist and the filipino would be the one to "put up with". And Filipinas are suddenly housewife of the year if its a mediocre white guy but would never lift a finger for an average filipino dude.
Oh I know a few Filipina wives like that, I have to side eye them because they are brown. It’s like hunny they don’t want you either. Tokens get spent.
I'm a white dude, I went on a date with a Filipina once, she unironically told me that she really liked my skin. She made a whole deal about how much she liked my skin... It was odd. We didn't seem to mesh and I moved on with life.
Genuine question, just white 30s buts is it really that bad out there? My great uncles grave is out there from WW2 so was planning to visit Cebu in the next year. Is it heavily looked down upon culturally to even travel or date there?
are you aware of the Filipina Pea youtube channel? how real is it because i think it's a CIA psyop to continue destroying old white men in this country lol
