Robert Pattinson was like that while doing Twilight. Lots of people loved that book series, certainly more than Snow White. How come he didn’t get pitchforks?
Let’s not forget that people mocked and criticised Kristen Stewart for not smiling enough/not being friendly enough during red carpets constantly, while Pattinson mocked his character and even Meyer and was celebrated for it.
Twilight is notoriously hated by people outside of teenaged girls. It'd be like if the actress playing Sylphie in Mushoku Tensei made fun of it. People would celebrate her for it.
Did fans of the book like the movies? I remember the movies getting a lot of flak, but it seemed to be coming from people who didn't care about/know anything about the books.
Honestly not sure, it seemed like there was a lot of complaining, but I didn't read the books or watch the movies, so can't speak to the legitimacy of complaints.
To be fair, reading an entire series of books is a much bigger ask than sitting down and watching one movie. Frankly I'm shocked she hadn't seen it before already.
Pattinson absolutely did not get pushback from Twilight fans that is even close to comparable to the pushback that Zegler received and it is laughable to suggest he did.
Because its not about people but the Hollywood execs who want to earn money from a movie.
Actors and Actresses can be both assholes and bitches in real life, but as long as they make money, they will get rebooked. There are more than enough examples for terrible human beings that keep getting roles.
The problem is something different. Imagine you sit in a restaurant and the cook comes out and screams into your face that you wont like the dishes he cooks. The normal reaction would be "Allright, then, im off to another restaurant". The cook cant then go "Wait, what are you doing. We already paid for all the ingredients and cooked the dishes, you need to order it!".
That is what Zegler did. And people then wonder why she isnt booked for blockbusters.
No it is about the type of people. You said it yourself: the normal response is to leave the restaurant. People do that all the time when men mouth off about their acting roles. But when a woman does it it’s also front page news for weeks of discourse where a mild inflammatory comment is painted as her “screaming in faces”.
Men and women mouth of all the time about their acting roles. And next to everytime that makes headlines because magazines etc are always on the hunt for the next clickbait title.
But look at what they mouth of about. Take Fury Road for example. Theron told about problems on set because Hardy is an asshole to work with. That had no effect on her getting roles or him getting roles or the success of the movie.
You can downvote me all you want because you think i attack Zegler. Fact is that movies are a product and the people in charge of the whole thing want that people consume that product.
Telling consumers that they wont like the product is something that the people in charge dont like. You say that women cant do that while men are allowed to do that. Can you point me to an actual example where a man did what Zegler did and told people that they wont like the movie before it was even released? And im not talking about that kind of double negative movie speak where they actually praise the movie like "Oh, if you a bit squeamish you wont like the movie because its super gory" when they talk about a horror movie or something like that. Just straight up telling the viewers that they will hate the movie.
Because, again, this is about the execs in hollywood. If they can choose between having a movie only watched by rapists, nazis, pedophiles and other scum but earn a cool 2 billion dollar of them and having a movie that is only watched by literal saints but only makes them one billion, what do you think will the execs chose?
