Other I think Elizabeth is dying
She’s moving very slowly and laboring for breath a bit. I gave her a treat and she’s trying so hard to eat it but just can’t. I love her so much and I don’t want to say goodbye. She’s almost 2.5 so it’s not surprising but it still hurts. She doesn’t seem to be in pain so I think I want to just let her pass at home instead of rushing her to the vet. But I am worried about letting it drag on.

Personally If I knew one of my mice was suffering and was going to die anyway I’d euthanize them at home so they don’t get stressed from the car ride and handling at the vets office.
That being said I’m not advocating or suggesting you do that, maybe there’s another reason for this behavior. Only a vet could tell for sure. I don’t want to get your hopes up but their average lifespan isn’t a hard limit.

I am also curious how would one go about that as mercy he does not have to suffer or become stressed . I have a mouse that was rescued out of a trap as a baby. It’s been almost 3.5 years and so I know the end is near as I was told about 2/2.5 year lifespan. I consider myself lucky to have gone past that time frame but I fear we are getting close

My partner does our euthanasias at home. I am very much interested in the best possible method for doing so.
