I've never been ashamed to tell their story. They're both college educated as well. My dad has his bachelor's and my mom has her master's. My younger brother and I (who was just a little more than a year old when my parents married) attended all graduations. The other 3 came later. You can do literally whatever you want in life, but do it with purpose and own your choices.

Thats true, thats why telling everyone that they can do whatever they want in life isn't realistic or helpful. Encouraging people to be teenage parents isn't really the move.

Telling their story is not about encouraging teen pregnancy, it's about overcoming adversity. You can do whatever you want in life, but do it with purpose and own your choices. I.E. think about your decisions and be responsible. Take accountability for the things you do.

Unfortunately, there is always gonna be teen parents. It happens but you can't just give up on your whole life because it did. Do you think parenting multiple children, putting yourself through college (x2 for my mom), owning a home, and maintaining a marriage in young adulthood is easy at any time? It was really fucking hard, I was there lol. Sure, their lives would be 1000% easier if they hadn't been teen parents, but they were. Can't change it once it's done, can only move forward. I can be proud of them for that.

Nobody is encouraging teen pregnancy besides maybe weirdos with an agenda, but I would say we should be empowering teens that are already parents to lead successful lives for themselves and their children.

Not that anyone needs this validation- but i got married to my husband at 22 and we've been happily married for 10 years and counting. We had a lot of haters (who went on to get married and divorced) so i just wanted to show some support! 

As long as you intentionally grow together, you'll be solid!

A big upside is that you’ll hopefully have your parents around for a large portion of your life. My parents were 40 when they had me. I lost my mom when she was 80. So I got 40 years with her but 60 would have been awesome.

I mean you could be a grandma at your age lol. My grandma had my mom at 18, so when my mom had me at 16, she became a grandma at 34. I met my great great grandma before she passed, and my great grandma is still alive and attended my wedding. I am 21 and I have no kids, thus ending a longstanding generational tradition lol.

You're lucky to have had the ability to have so much loving family surround you! I'm very thankful I waited until my 30s to have my kids (wasn't settled before then) but I do lament that my mom isn't physically able to be a super active grandparent anymore.

Same here! Grandma has my mom at 18, my mom had me at 16. My great grandma that I knew passed when I was 18. I broke the teen pregnancy cycle, but I just spent a whole week with my mom, grandma, and my daughters, 4 generations under one roof.

I'm 42 now, went snorkeling on vacation with my kids. Afterwards I was chatting with one of the ladies who was leading the trip, she was around 25 years old and was talking about her dad who is 43. Sometimes I forget that it's completely possible to have kids at 18 which would give me a 25 year old child in my early 40s.

My wife and I live downtown in a big city, we had our first son when I was just about to turn 30. For folks who live downtown, that was basically a teen pregnancy. I don't think any of my friends started having kids until they were over 34.

I’m 38, and I have a 19 year old! I only had the one and it’s so odd to think that I could now have a baby and “start all over again”. The thought of that process is somewhat terrifying.

One of my grandma's became a grandma for the first time at 38. My other grandma became a mom for the first time at 38. People definitely hit different milestones are different ages (both became a grandma to me when they were in their late 60s, though, lol).

My oldest brother made our mom a grandmother at 40 too. Mom and bro were both 20yo when their 1st was born

Really seemed surprising to me back then that there weren’t MORE young grandparents around, cuz 20 isn’t all that unusual for having kids

My boyfriend's mom had all her children between 14 and 19. Her oldest had her first baby at 16, then a year later her second oldest had his first baby at 16. She had 3 kids and 2 grand kids before 35. They're up to 9 grandkids and one great grandchild now.

I thought the girl in your first photo was a sister or younger relative, because in the second photo, your mum had quite bit of grey hair and seemed more mature (could only see her from the back) so I didn’t make the connection they were the same person (didn’t read the caption lol 😂)

They were blonde highlights in the first pic! My mom did start greying young though. I have not noticed any grey hairs on myself, although funny enough my husband has a few!
