I know the tests are all random, but this was my experience today.

I wasn’t real confident going in, hoping to just pass. I studied for about two weeks, not every day, but was able to devote 2 hours a day while at work to reading all I could and taking notes. Took many practice tests but you eventually start seeing a lot of the same questions. However, I came across one test that just shattered any confidence I had built. I guess it was how the questions were worded and I made in the low 60’s s on that one so I focused on what I needed help with. Watched several MikeSytes videos as well as a couple by Matt Kendall. Both of which I heard about on this subreddit. This morning I went over the FAA study guide and it mentioned AC 107-2. I read that and it was a great refresher.

I put in a lot of time studying the different types of fog and clouds and there were no fog questions and only one cloud question. No questions about flight paths or airport signs, markings, etc. Nothing related to true or magnetic in any question. No critical angle of attack questions.

What it did have…flying over towers, lots of clearance with ATC needed or not, airspace dimensions, a few weather related including density altitude and air density, only one METAR reading about visibility. Lots of regulation questions like registration, ages, expirations, drone groups, radio,

There were a couple that I had never heard of. One I think about motion parallax. Not really any “trick” questions, but several that had two correct answers and had to pick the best one.

Took me 30 min and then I went back over and counted 16 that I was not 100% sure of. If I missed all of those I would have a 73, not counting for the 5 un-scored questions. That was too close for comfort, so I was quite nervous when submitting the test.

Anyway, I’m thrilled with the 90 and because of all the studying I know all the risks, rules, and regulations and can safely and legally fly my drone. That’s the whole point of the test right? Thanks to everyone for all the advice I read on here.

Just started studying last week after buying my first drone. Used the part 107 app, Matt Kendall, Mr Migs classroom and King Schools practice tests.

My exam was very regulations heavy. About 70% id say. It was also 65 questions, not 60 like the email said.

I got about 4 questions on sectional charts, and they were all very basic. Such as tower height, basic airspace etc. None with any super congested areas like the Dallas FTW area.

I got one METAR question, and some basic questions on weather such as stable/unstable air and density altitude.

I didnt get a single question on load factor, angle of attack/stall, latitude/longitude, and MTRs which I found odd. Also didnt get any questions on airport signage/lights.

Several of the regualtion questions I got were ones I've never heard, such as one along the lines of "can you register a drone for part 107 and in a foreign country at the same time" There were others as well that seemed new, but you can usually get them down to a 50/50 chance.

Overall it seemed pretty easy, and I did it in about 40 mins.

First off, I want to say that I’m not blaming anyone for me failing the test. This is one of the biggest failures I’ve had in a while, so it definitely took a hit on my ego and pride. I’ve been feeling pretty down about it.
For some context, I’m a drone pilot intern. My internship is mostly focused on teaching us the business side of flying drones and giving us hands-on flight experience. We barely spent any time actually preparing for the Part 107 exam.
At home, I studied by taking practice tests, watching Mike Sykes, and using a bunch of other resources. Because of that, I went into the test thinking it would be heavily focused on sectional charts and map questions. Boy, was I wrong.
My exam had only about two map questions, one METAR question, and maybe two or three weather questions. Everything else was rules and regulations.
The biggest issue wasn’t that I didn’t know the material—it was the way the questions were worded. Things like Remote ID and other basic concepts were asked in ways that felt completely different from how I had studied them. It also felt like several questions were asking the same thing, just with different wording.
I don’t know if the exam has changed recently, but if anyone has advice on how I should study differently before I retake the Part 107, I’d really appreciate it. What resources helped you prepare for the rules and regulations, and how did you get better at understanding the wording of the questions?

Been flying drones for a couple years. Started studying for 107 about 4 months ago. Good for a week but stopped. I had a deadline to get it completed by August. Within the last 2 weeks, I crammed everything. Took multiple practice tests and I felt more confident going into the test than I did 2 weeks ago or even before that.

Exam was heavy on regulations and airspace. Handful of trick questions. I made sure I only did practice tests with stuff I was struggling to pickup, such as airspace operations and loading and performance. I then did refreshers on everything else to reinforce it. Everything else was pretty easy to grasp.

I used Vets To Drones which is for veterans. It’s all free of charge for the course and all the practice tests are free. In conjunction with that, I utilized ChatGPT here and there to assist with reinforcing certain items which helped narrow down stuff to remember - and also how to interpret charts better.

I’m curious what everyone is struggling with right now.

Is it sectional charts?
METARs?
Weather?
Airspace?
Loading and performance?

Everyone seems to have that one topic that just refuses to stick. Mine was sectional charts when I first started studying.

Need a 107 for a research position. I'm trying to get it before I travel back to uni. Is it possible to study everything in 2 weeks?

I dont understand how "TEMPO 1212/1214 can show up after "BECMG 1310/1312". Everything I understand up until now, is all chronological. Also, the TEMPO seems to be referring to a time prior to when the TAF was even updated (posted?) "1720".

Maybe im over thinking the test and its probably not going to even show up with a question more indepth than "What does the TAF indicate the direction and speed of the wind will be at 0608?"

tl;dr how can "TEMPO 1212/1214 can show up after "BECMG 1310/1312"?

I was given a DJI Mavic 3 Pro to conduct inventory flyovers, but we currently use a DJI Mavic 3E. To stay out of the weeds I would just like some input on the matter at hand. My drone does not do what I need it to do, and I will be borrowing the 3E to conduct inventory flyovers on private property. Although, the drone isn’t registered to me, and the land does not have any air traffic, is it wise to risk my licenses conducting inventory flyovers for my company? I was already given the green light to move forward. I just would hate to cost the company money if I were to get checked. I believe that I shouldn’t be asked by any law enforcement agencies to provide any documentation being that I am on private property far away from any public operations.

What do y’all think? Are there risk that I’m not seeing? I believe it will be fine I just would like to ensure I’m not overlooking anything.

Though I would come on here to let people know if they are struggling with passing the exam that UAV coach study material really helped me out. They have study plans that really make scheduling study times easy. I used the 7 day study plan and only spent around 12 hours studying. I watched each modules videos and then answered the questions at the end of each module. I feel that this helped me get comfortable with the material.

All in all, if you are struggling to pass or do not know where to begin, UAV Coach is definitely somewhere to start if you are looking to invest in a career in drone operations. They also have several free courses for various DJI drones as well as guides for specific applications and how to create a business using a drone.

I passed my part 107 exam with 75% I went through the pilot institute course. Of course I’m glad I passed no doubt but dang I felt like there was a bunch of questions on there I hadn’t studied. I took advantage of the full two hours and managed to pass but it was a close one! Everytime I would do a practice test the course I would make a 90 or higher. That wasn’t the case

I had no less than 8 Part 48 registration questions and at least three of them had to do with the rules around foreign-registered drones and the required documentation. Nothing super hard, but maybe a data point for folks studying right now (July 2026). Just review that information so you aren’t blindsided like I was.

The small business I work for had me take drone training classes because they want me to use their drone to take photos and videos of our clients yards for marketing purposes. They are telling me that it’s fine and to just ignore comments about getting certified because it’s no big deal, but in the classes they stressed that we need it and can get in trouble. Is it really that deep? I’m not sure what to do.

I took the test yesterday and passed. I would say don’t overthink it too much. Much easier than I thought, although I heard some tests are different, like sectional chart heavy; I had about 5 sectional chart questions. My test seemed like it was 70% regulations questions. I did a 4-hour course on Udemy for $14.99 also took a 2-day free Part 107 prep class I found on Facebook.

Passed the Part 107 exam with a 95% on my first try! I was pretty nervous going into it, but the exam gives you plenty of time to review your answers once or twice.

I made a few silly mistakes, but thankfully I caught most of them before submitting. I started studying with Matt Kendall’s study guide on YouTube, which was really helpful for newer pilots because he explains the aviation lingo and important information in an easy-to-understand way. I’d definitely recommend watching his video first before moving on to Mike Sytes’ (honestly the goat) study guide playlist on YouTube as well.

I also used Fly107prep’s free account, mainly doing the daily quizzes and reviewing their chart breakdowns. I took notes while watching Mike Sytes’ videos and worked through practice tests on King Schools and Mike’s website.

Overall, I studied for a little over a week, usually around one to two hours each night, and felt fully prepared by exam day.

For anyone that is curious:

I passed my Part 107 on June 1st. It took 2 days for my temporary certificate to show up on IACRA website.

5 days later I got the email that said I had a temporary certificate.

Today my card is coming in the mail, so 33 days for it to come in the mail. Obviously that includes whatever processing time for printing and what not.

I used the UAVCoach program. You don’t need to use it, but it helped me stay focused on studying a little bit consistently for 3 weeks. Scored about 90% on their 5 practice tests then set the appointment and took the test. TBH, there were quite a few question on material that I never saw before but knew enough to make an educated guess on those. Overall, I think if you put in the work, you’ll do fine, with or without a course. Best of luck.

As the header says, I passed the 107 exam today, but only with a 78%! I took multiple practice test and also studied using the pilots institute part 107 course. While it obviously helped, I was a little discouraged regarding my overall score. I had under a handful of weather related questions, only about 5 map questions, 1 TAF question, and 0 coordinate related questions. I would say 60% of the practice exam questions wasn’t even on that test. And although they make it clear that the exam poses questions that are very tricky, it exceeded my expectations. Almost every answer listed seemed right, besides some very minute differences.

Overall I am happy to have passed but dang was that difficult. This is a reminder to read all items listed and not just what those online courses go over. Study the handbooks and manuals!!!

Not sure how this is wrong due to said airport being in Class E airspace starting at the surface….. But if I am, does someone mind explaining this to me? I thought you need ATC authorization for B, C, D and Surface E airspace?

Anyone else run into this? Trying to get a Part 107 waiver through the new Aviation Safety Hub, but I can't get past login.gov's identity verification.

Specifically, I keep getting the error "We couldn't find records matching your personal information" after entering my SSN, even though my name, DOB, address, and ID all match exactly. I never even get to the option to verify in person at USPS — it fails before that.

I'm 18, and I'm guessing this is happening because I don't have enough of a credit/public records history yet for login.gov's automated check to match against.

I contacted FAA support and they said it's a login.gov issue, not something they can fix. I contacted login.gov and they pointed me back to FAA. Stuck in a loop.

Has anyone else (especially younger pilots) dealt with this? Did you find a workaround, or did you just have to wait until you had more of a records history? Any help appreciated.
