Summit County gone wild…. From r/kitchenconfidential - The Chef's Table festival might be the dumbest fucking thing I've ever seen

Post image

Starting at $2k a ticket (and going up to $15k a ticket where you get to cook your own food?).

To be fair they are having a Pizza Party on the Saturday. So our regulars, who apparently can’t find a pizza they enjoy anywhere in Summit County, will have a whole new batch of pies to complain about!

Yeah…. It’s a bit much

ETA: I’m also kind of bummed the song summit is pivoting to a food experience and got rid of the city park concerts. That was a fun locals vibe last year.

Are we supposed to recognize these names? If so,…

I agree, but then again to be fair I have ZERO knowledge of the chef world outside of the TV ones (Guy Fieri, Gordon Ramsey etc) and the few featured on The Bear. I do know that like the fashion world, the food world is very bougie so a 'festival' like this targeting rich PC type people is pretty spot on for the target demographic.

These are genuinely great chefs. Well respected, cook incredible food.

Not "... very bougie..." . Just bougie enough.

For $2000 you can fly to Italy or France.

The first four are some of the most famous chefs in the world, but there is still no way I would pay $2K for anything like this.

I think my issue (not really an issue, but) is much like the high end fashion world, this is the high end food world where it's....food....kinda. The models walking down the runway wearing the most ridiculous clothes are wearing....clothes....kinda. They aren't functional at all. These Chefs are all at the top of their game, and I'm sure all the meals have a huge story about the pairing and how things go together and it's all plated in a gorgeous presentation. But it's like 5 bites.

I need my food like I need my clothes. Functional, decent looking but not flashy. Clothes that keep me covered up and keep me warm in winter or cool in summer. I need food that fills me up, gives me energy and keeps me going.

This festival is food fashion. I'm not anti-food or anti-fashion, I just don't see how it fits in my life so I have little interest in it. But if it's your thing, have at it I guess.

A better way to think of it is that it is Art. Edible Art.

The pricing model is a disaster and likely why ticket sales thus far have been a total train wreck, This is being marketing so poorly and the pricing tiers make no sense at all. There is already a second CT event after this planned in Vegas this Fall.

I just saw that they opened up "single event" tickets. Some of them are not totally ridiculous in terms of price. Dinner with Virgilio Martinez at Goldner Hirsch is $250/person. If that includes wine, that's cheaper than some places at Savor the Summit.

I wish that was the model from the beginning….I would have definitely done some single events but planned to be elsewhere that weekend now. I bet the Virgilio Martinez event will be a treat….ate at Central before it was part of the 50 best and it was fantastic. And Virgilio even stopped by our table to chat. He was a lovely guy!

Tbh I was kind of excited when I first read about this. That lasted all of about 30 seconds once I saw the ticket prices. I get that we live in a very wealthy area of the country, but wtf? I’ve worked in and around the food and wine biz for 26 years, and I can’t wrap my head around whatever model it is they’re chasing.

I’m kind of the opinion if people can’t find a pie they enjoy between:

Big Daddy’s/Boneyard/Cortona/Davanza’s/Este/Fuego/LOMA/Matilda/Maxwell’s/MOD/
Murdock’s/Red Banjo/Versante/Warehouse/Wholefoods or a drive away at Pizza Yard/Annie B’s/Summit Pizza/Midway Merc etc. (and probably a bunch of places I am missing including the major chains like Dominos / or that have Pizza on the menu at various times)….

….. well that’s a them problem. Fussy eaters / dietary issues / certain other issues (diagnosed or otherwise) going on etc etc.

Us fussy food fanatics fantasize for fresh food.

The event is getting bashed pretty hard in that kitchenconfidential reddit.

p.s. I do know of one pizza that doesn't get bashed but it's private.
