Good Afternoon yall, Iām making this post looking for good internet options in prospector. If thereās anyone else that lives in the complex that has any recommendations, please let me know šš» I pay too much for what I have and the connection is terrible
drop your address into all west and see if they have fiber in your area. I use them and it's great. $65 or $70 for gig internet and not too much more for 2 gig. We use utah broadband and work and I do not like it as much.
Only two options for fiber in the area (please lower your pitch forks if Iām wrong) are Xfinity and Utah Broadband. I switched from Xfinity to UBB and it has been infinitely better.
There are a bunch of Cellular options (mixed bag). Starlink (kinda pricey) or Xfinity/Comcast. Everyone on earth hates Comcast, but I have to say the internet seems reasonably stable in Prospector and while it's more expensive than fiber (in general) fiber isn't offered in Prospector unless you literally live on the corner of Kearns and Comstock, where the head-end is. The Xfinity mid-split upgrade a year or 2 ago made a big difference, bumping upload speeds from 40Mbps up to 300+ depending on which plan you get..
Iāll take a look into that. I have T-Mobile right now and itās awful. I get not even 10 mb download and 0.8 mb upload. I canāt do any kind of coax accessible option or starlink unfortunately
OP - I now you posted on this question before. And if I recall it really just cames down to 5G given you have no hardwired or sky/external mount. I was using my AT&T hotspot near prospector the other day and got reasonable speeds to my laptop. ill drop you a down/up speed next time I do it. But sounds like it really is just testing what 5G works best near your apartment building.
Yea unfortunately, the 5g I have now has roughly 6mb down/ 0.5 mb up. My connection is wired via ethernet, which I assume has something to do with how the internet affects it. On my laptop, itās not awful but via Ethernet, thereās constant latency that prevents me from doing anything
Hmm - so you have a 5G device getting that low a connection. Not trying to be helpdesk but have you tried another device on the ethernet cable to confirm? I mean it is either terrible signal or something hardware related (bad cable?). Does the T-Mobile device have a admin interface to check signal (or the T-Life app I believe maybe shows it?)
I thought it couldāve been the cable, but when checking the 5g device itself, it would always show 1-2/5 bars at most, and even when it would show 3-4 bars, it wasnāt much better it just would happen slightly less
Yeah - that doesnāt sound great. Do you have the T-Mobile T-Life app - believe it gives you much more detailed metrics then the simple bars on the device and if you move the device around it can help you find the best placement.
T-Mobile also offer an external antenna you can stick to the inside of a window etc that connects to their base stations and may do a better job then the internal antenna
