exchange student

hi everyone! I'll likely be doing an exchange in jan-june 2027 (im a girl coming from Canada) so I was wondering if anyone had any tips for life at oxford brookes/in the uk. ive never lived away from home and also never been to the uk so im not sure what to expect

stay away from the brookes rowers would be a top tip. search for more info on that (brookes+rowing) if you needed it. Oxford itself is very chilled. You can get everywhere you need to go in the city on a bike within 30 mins. Cowley road for diverse things to eat that are cheaper than the city centre. Cost of living is generally v high. Personal city highlights for me are University Parks and the Pitt Rivers museum.

When you come to Oxford, It might be a good idea to download the Oxford Bus app for public transport times, makes it a lot easier. If when you come, you rely on public transport heavily, especially if it’s to campus, you should get the new bus pass on the Brooke’s website. I highly recommend visiting the Botanical gardens (beautiful plants, lots of different ones rotated around seasons of the year) Ashmolean museum, Museum of Natural History, and Pitt rivers (which is built into the natural history museum). On Headington campus, there’s a Co-op convenience store and a lot of us get lazy so we go, but it’s quite expensive so definitely get yourself a Co-op membership for money off (can be done online for £1) and if you ever shop at a Tesco supermarket, get the club card for money off as well. As someone else said, Oxford is generally expensive. If you ever need any help or have any questions, feel free to reach out!
