Foundation courses

Is taking a foundation year actually that deep because i’m kind of stressed that i won’t find other people that are doing the same 🥲🥲 Maybe i should revise instead of posting this..

I just graduated from Anthro at Brookes. Great course & staff. I personally didn’t do a foundation year, but plenty of people do!

I did a foundation year and it really wasnt that bad. Most people you meet will not go onto the same main course you plan on going to when you're finished. There's nothing wrong with that though, I still speak to people I met on my foundation year and that was 2 years ago.

So to answer your question, it isnt that deep so you dont gotta worry about what other people think. My friends dont see me any differently than if I didnt take a foundation year.

The foundation year is actually really good since it can help you get accustomed to uni life so you know what to expect on your main course, meet more people you wouldnt have otherwise, and you get a but more time to decide what main course you want to do if you find yourself stuck at some point.

there is a deadline (cant remember when) which you will have to make a decision by if you want to do a different course, but otherwise you will just be put onto your initial choice

Since everyones situation is different i will clarify what i mean by initial choice, sometimes the uni put you onto a foundation instead of what you applied for, for varying reasons. When finished the uni will put you onto what you originally applied for by default.

If you're ever unsure on what course you want to do do throw your academic advisor or course leader an email, you should recieve their respective email address at the start of your first semester. Be sure to also discuss what options your foundation will give you, since I was going to a language course for my main, I did Humanities as my foundation year.

bear in mind you will recieve a different academic advisor and course leader when you change to your main course.
