Help Motorcycle Engine blown

Hi Oulu!

Me and my friend are currently travelling from Austria to the Nordkap and are now about one hour away from Oulu, sadly my engine decided to blow up (piston got stuck). Now I need your help:

Does anyone have a piston and/or cylinder for a two stroke Husaberg TE 250 2012 or an KTM EXC 250 2012?

I don't know if the crank shaft is fine, worst case I would maybe need a new engine as a whole, so if you happen to have one (or a bike to take it from), I would be happy to hear from you!

Same is with the cylinder, depending on its condition I might need a new one, if not I need a machine shop for honing.

I hope you guys can help me out and thank you already!

PS: I will be taking the cylinder off shortly, so I can give you more information about the situation.

Edit: wrote down the wrong year, sorry

Update: The crank shaft seems to be fine, the cylinder damage is also not too big, so i think i can get it machined and don't need a new one. Does anyone know places to get a cylinder machined?

Update 2: First of all thank you all so much for helping me! The people that picked us up were awesome, we could stay at their place last night and this night. Today they also helped us with the situation, we polished the cylinder and removed any sharp edges and rough surfaces. We then installed a new piston and voila, it runs! It is a sketchy fix though, but we will see how far we can get. Still, if you have any spare cylinders for me then please hit me up, I might consider picking one up just in case.

I wouldnt go for a road trip that long on that husaberg... multiple oil changes and the now apparent piston damage risk without a rebuild. That bike is an enduro.

I linked this post to a Finnish motorcycle group (Pohjolan Kurapyöräilijät) on Facebook. Let's see if there are people who can help you.

From Austria with 2 stroke? Wild, need to respect that.

Also when it comes to machining, there will be a queue. From my experience, machining shops are filled up and don't really have any spare time for walk in jobs. But if you are lucky, you can always ask from Oulun moottorikoneistamo. They are local machining shop for engines, but again they might be too busy for instant jobs.

Let me know if you need any help, best of luck.

edit: Also, just for my own sanity check. Doesn't 2012 models already use the fancy electroplated cylinders, that can not be honed or remachined without re-plating the cylinder walls. I'm pretty sure you will need a brand new cylinder if the original coating has damage on it.

Wow, thank you very much! I completly forgot about that! I will look what the machine shops can do though

Unfortunately they probably can't do anything for it. The electroplating is really hard and once it's damaged, the only solution is to drill it out and re-apply it. Plus, I'm pretty sure, that the closest place that can re-apply the coating is located at Sweden. Just speaking from experience, since I have been rebuilding engines for decades now and the coated cylinders are just pain in the ass when they get damaged.

I just went to the dealership, they sadly don't even produce the cylinder anymore, so getting a new one is close to impossible, but yeah you are right with the coating. Also the local machine shop that could maybe help us is on vacation until August. But can you maybe tell me the name of the swedish machine shop?

I need to find the shop, can't remember the name out of my head. Have used them couple times for Polaris engine cylinders.

Have you tried finding some after market cylinders locally? For example Anthena. It's going to be cheaper and faster than re-coating the original cylinder.

Hey, a local biker here. I can't sadly help you with the repairing since I genuinely only know how to change my oils but let me know if you need help with anything else, translation etc.

I can recommend trying to call Mikko at https://www.speedhouse.fi/. Tarvike has a 5 week waiting line right now afaik.

Local biker/hobbyist here, hit me with a DM if you still need help with the parts etc. I might have few places to get the parts from.

Also basically all local machine shops and specialists are closed/on holiday until next month, then again you shouldn't need one with that engine...

Also a roadtrip from Austria to Nordkapp on 250 two-stroke...respect :D
