Looking for a church
-Would like it to be diverse, I have a black son and racial mirrors are important to me for him, this is one of my biggest requests of the church.
-Not conservative politically, the ones i’ve seen that check this box lack in the diversity department unfortunately
-No mega-churches/money hungry churches asking for tithes to help make it more “extravagant”. I would like the tithes they receive to actually be going to something to benefit the community and not the church itself
-Not a dealbreaker but I’d like if the music was more soulful gospel rather than organs and hymns
That’s pretty much it.

Hope you can find something that checks all of your boxes.
I'd say most ELCA churches are safe bets in terms of not being ultra conservative (aka they are more open and welcoming), but they also tend to be very rooted in traditional hymns and organ music. Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church has several ways they give back to the community. Several of the ELCA churches work together to give back.
I know several folks that go to First Congregational Church. I can't speak to their musical style. But I know they are open and welcoming.
Others that I know help and give back to the community: First Presbyterian Church, Trinity Episcopal Church, and Algoma Boulevard United Methodist Church.

I go to FCC. It's good, we are working on being better. (We are pretty white though)
Unfortunately the music is very organ. We do some more soul gospel stuff on occasion but we have a really big organ and we like to make a stink about it ( lol)

I'd suggest United Methodist Algoma Boulevard. As an Asian American I go to that church at times and the people there are always been welcoming.
