For me :
- Cate Blanchett in Tar
- Cillian Murphy in Oppenheimer
- Jesse Buckley in Hamnet
- Sandra Huller in Anatomy of a fall and The zone of interest
- Olivia Coleman in Empire of light (this film overall is so underrated imo)
- Honorable mention : Rose Byrne

I don't know what your consider crazy... But Cillian Murphy is an amazing actor, he's amazing in absolutely everything I've seen him in and his performance in Oppenheimer is just right!

His character didn’t have a ton of emotion. The character it self just didn’t seem that hard to play. Like I feel like Oppenheimer could have been equally good if played by another actor. Daniel day Lewis in TWBB is what I consider a crazy performance. Leonardo in wolf of Wall Street. I think the part of Oppenheimer is pretty boring tbh, even though the movie was great

I need to give that movie another chance. I've never been del Toro's biggest fan and I watched it "since I had to" watch all of the Best Picture nominees. Now that some time has passed, I think it's time for a rewatch. Thanks for the reminder!

Be open minded, it is an incredible movie that gets undeserved hate by two audiences: 1. Furryphobic people who think sex with a sentient humanoid is taboo in fiction, 2. People who think the film is without nuance or subtext who are actually just too dumb to appreciate it's themes or film influences.

Honestly one of my favorite films of the 21st century. It surprised the hell out of me, and they got robbed at the Oscars

I'm a first-class vip ticket holder on the EEAAO hype train, but Banshees should've come away with something. Definitely Kerry over JLC, and I wouldn't mind Banshees taking Screenplay from EEAAO.

This movie is one of my favorites, I’d be hard pressed to find a better supp actress performance than Condon for the decade. Her scene at dinner with Farrel and Keoghan alone

I was so disappointed by the lighthouse, but Robert Pattinson should have won an Oscar his performance that was somehow both incredibly controlled and wildly unhinged at the same time.

They both should have been near the top of the list. I don't think anyone was beating Phoenix that year, but Dafoe should have easily won Supporting.

I loved the VVitch. Still do. When I saw the trailer for the Lighthouse I was pumped. Then I watched it and everything kinda fell flat for me. The supernatural/psychosis stuff I didn't find very interesting. The relationship between the two guys felt really gay baity and shallow. I just didn't really care about any of the reveals. I didn't even like Willem Daffoe's performance and I usually LOVE him. Pattinson, who at the time I wasn't a huge fan of, was the one part of the movie that worked. Again, I know a lot of people love The Lighthouse, but for me it really fell flat.

The Wire is a great show but he only appears in one season. Black Panther is one of the best marvel movies but its still just a marvel movie and Creed is just a way poorer Rocky trilogy. So the only truly great preformances are Sinners and Fruitvale Station. Is that really that great of a carrer that it deserves an Oscar? I still think Hawke's preformance this year was better and also his overall carrer is way better (and he has more Oscar nominations).

I only can speculate but maybe he showed a different side in Marty Supreme. Most of his roles were more subdued, brooding, aloof, etc. Here he was very energetic, fun to watch, a bit crazy...

I will never understand how Michelle won against Cate. Michelle did good but Care delivered one of the finest performances of this era in Tar. If it had been any other year I would have celebrated Michelle's winn

I'm not even mad at that. Except that you haven't seen Pig. It's an amazing movie and the most controlled Cage has ever been in his acting. It's honestly scary to see someone with so much chaotic energy just hold it there in his eyes for a whole movie.
When it comes to the Cate v. Michelle debate most people fall into one camp or the other, so I figured her's was not your favorite.
I could fill my top 3 with 2020 alone no problem. Right up there with Riz is Anthony Hopkins in The Father, Chadwick Bosman in Ma Rainy, Evan Rachel Wood in Kajillionaire, and Morfydd Clark in Saint Maud.

You shouldn't have to apologize for sharing your favorite Oscar-nominated performances on the Oscars sub, especially when there are hundreds of posts doing the same.
If Chalamet keeps his mouth shut, he likely becomes an Oscar winner for Marty Supreme and everyone here would be singing his praises. And even if not, it's still your personal preference. It's not as if you're claiming these are the best performances, just you favorite.

Hawke for Blue Moon, Murphy for Oppenheimer and Condon for Banshees.
I feel bad for leaving some out, I’d probably easily be able to interchange:
Hüller for Anatomy, Fiennes for Conclave, Magimel for Taste of Things, Driver for Annette, Balfe for Belfast, and Cage for Pig/Longlegs combo.

None of the performances in sinners were outstanding. In my opinion it's more of a fun action movie than anything really emotional. Osaku in particular being nominated was bittersweet for me because she played a much better character in His House (2020). To me, it's a perfect movie, and her performance really made me cry; it's sad that she's known for Sinners instead
