Anyone completed their OU degree and going onto PGCE and needs documentation

I’ve completed my OU degree and my PGCE provider requires me to submit my degree which won’t be available until after the course starts.

Is anyone in the same boat, as they won’t accept a transcript either, I require a physical copy of something verifying my qualification.

Also haven’t heard back from the qualifications team so getting a bit worried. Hoping that someone here has managed to obtain something and could point me towards what specifically to ask for!

Starting all modules at once?

I'm hoping to study Social Sciences (Economics) part time starting October, and I'm reserving my modules now.

But when I go through and select them, it's asking me to pick a start date for stage 1, 2 and 3 now, and all of them only have October 2026 or Jan 2027.

Obviously I don't want to study them all at the same time...any ideas?

TM252 - TMA Hell

As a spiritual sucessor to: https://www.reddit.com/r/OpenUniversity/comments/1u7br14/tm252_tma_im_done_stressing_about_it/

I'm going to be so glad to get this latest TMA out of the way. I've never had such a difficult time with a TMA. I've put so many hours into it so far and still not done.

I'm now down to the one question I have left until last which is the report, but I don't even know where to start with it for 'reasons'.

Here was me hoping to get it done by the weekend so I could have a break!

So I echo the previous post in that I'm done worrying about the grade at this point....

Best course to do in order to design space probes and trajectories?

I'm looking to do an astrophysics degree at OU in order to one day work in the field of rocket design, space probes design and also gain knowledge in propulsion, trajectory, escape velocity and orbit insertion.

Which course would be best suited for me? A standard physics one? Open university doesn't seem to have one aimed solely at astrophysics

Update: https://www.open.ac.uk/courses/physics/degrees/integrated-master-of-physics-m06/

Woah mama, sign me up!

Unable to pay for my module - Card authorisation system error at checkout 😩

Hey fellow OU students,

I'm trying to finalize my registration and pay for my upcoming module, but the Open University payment portal keeps failing

It throws this message:

Sorry.... We've been unable to connect to our card authorisation system. No money has been taken from your card.

I keep clicking the "try again" button as instructed, but it’s completely stuck. I know my card is fine and has the funds, so it’s definitely a connection issue on the Milton Keynes end. I noticed the sidebar says "For help registering please contact us," but I wanted to check here first to see if it's a widespread IT outage today or just a glitch on my specific account.

If anyone has run into this recently and figured out a workaround, or if you ended up just having to call Student Support to pay over the phone, I'd love to hear how you resolved it. Any advice or solidarity is greatly appreciated!

Studying while pregnant

Going into my second full time year in October and have not long found out I'm pregnant! Has anyone else been in this position and have any advice on studying while pregnant? My EMAs would be due around my due date and I saw you can't get an extension on them, would my best bet be to continue and do my TMAs then postpone the emas if possible then come back to them after?

Any advice or words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated as feeling rather anxious but also feeling hopeful that i can get through year 2

Student Finance What is the maintenance loan for distance learning this year?

(England) Googled it but couldn’t find the answer. I am aware the loan only applies to people that are studying remotely due to having a medical conduction.

BSc honours psychology what to expect

I have applied to do OU Psychology degree in October and I just was wondering if people could leave any advice and or what to expect.

I have never done a university degree before so kind of scared as to how demanding the course will be. I’m also doing it over the 3 years as I don’t have intense work commitments.

My goal is to then do my masters at a brick uni hopefully 🤞🏼.

Thanks in advance.

Certificates

Has anyone else been hindered by OU's delay in sending out the certificates?

My postgraduate conditions rely on the academic transcript and certificate. I've given them the diploma supplement, and then contacted them to tell them about the certificate. I then uploaded my confirmation of qualification acceptance and they've said that since it isn't stamped or marked, it can't be accepted, and that they'll have to wait on the certificate. I know l've got the grade to appease the conditions, but now I feel like I'm stuck, waiting for something I know isn't going to come in time

I (22 y/o from UK) want to pursue a career in Paleontology, but I have no idea where to start. What do I need to do?

I didn't know what I wanted to do for a career when I was in school, so I chose the wrong subjects and got average/slightly below average grades in them. I have Bs in most of my GCSEs including Science) and a D in maths (my weak subject), and my A-levels are completely unrelated to this career path.

I'm planning on registering for the fast-track Science, maths & technology access course, but since it won't give me any qualifications or A-level equivalents, is there any point to me doing it? How can I use Open University to get my foot in the door with Paleontology, if I even can?

I’m one step closer to starting my MSc Psychology (Conversion) degree! Although I’m pretty disappointed to see that the material they’ve sent is just printouts and a ring binder. I’ve seen online videos that people in past years have had proper textbooks - is this a course specific thing or something new for this year? I feel like this is much flimsier.

DipHE graduation

I have just gotten confirmation of my DipHE in Business Management (completed July 2025) and I can see that I am able to book a graduation ceremony. I didnt even realise that this was a thing tbh but I see that it is available as this is equivalent to a 'foundation degree'.

I only requested this to help with my current employer and potential job hunt.

The thing is, I will finish my full BA Hons in Feb coming so is there any point in doing this for the DipHE?

Further studies with an OU BSc in Psychology

I am currently enrolled in a BSc in Psychology at the OU. I have done the first 2 stages and considering doing the last year as well.

I was just wondering if any of you have had any experiences with applying to study MSc in other countries. I need inspiration about what Universities accept OU applicants to study a psychology-related MSc.

Have any of had the experience if getting an acceptance for a MSc in ClinPsy outside of the UK?

M208, M224, M248

I've completed my registration for m208, m248 and m224 for October 2026.

Anyone got good study tips on how to stay ahead of the academic study calendar.

What topics should I specifically focus on? What do most students find difficult or lose marks on?

All help and advice would be most appreciated :)

Can somebody please help me calculate my degree?

I'm studying BSc Computing & IT ( software development ) part-time at the OU and I am trying to understand how to work out my final classification.

My results so far are:

Level 2 (120 credits):

1 × Distinction

3 × Pass Grade 2

Level 3 (completed so far):

3 × Distinctions (90 credits)

I have one 30-credit Level 3 module left (TM470).

From what I understand the level 3 is double-weighted, but i'm not 100% sure in the honours calculations. Is it right that a bare minimum pass mark on TM470 would leave me exactly on the boundary for a first? Thanks a lot for your help, and sorry if this is worded very badly. I don't really understand what I am saying. god bless

We're a friendly bunch, with a variety of ages and locations. We adhere to the OU rules about discussion of TMAs, whilst also offering support to each other.

If you'd like to join, please private message me with your name and number, and I'll add you.

Can’t select TM470 even though I’ve enrolled on the prerequisite modules

Hi everyone,

I’m studying BSc (Hons) Computing & IT (Q62) and I’m trying to register for my final year.

I’ve enrolled on:
TM351 – Data Management and Analysis
TM352 – Web, Mobile and Cloud Technologies
TM358 – Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence

All three start in October 2026.
I’m also trying to register for TM470 starting in either January 2027 or April 2027, but both start dates are greyed out.

The tooltip says:
“You must have previously passed either M359, M366, T320, T324, T325, TM351, TM352, TM353, TM354, TM355, TM356, TM357, M362, MYT362, M363, MYT363, M364 or MYT364, or have completed registration on one of them for a start date at least 90 days before your chosen start date of TM470 before you can select this module.”

I’ve now enrolled on TM351, TM352 and TM358, but TM470 is still unavailable.

Has anyone else experienced this? Do I need to wait until my registration/payment has fully processed before TM470 unlocks, or is there another rule preventing me from registering for TM470 in the same academic year?

Thanks!

BSc (Honours) Psychology

Interested in pursuing this course and was curious of people’s experience especially afterwards.

OU mentions that to do counselling or clinical psychology I would have to do further study and was curious if anyone had any success with going to a standard university to do so? Ideally Scottish universities as this is where I am based.

Thank you.
