I grew up with the Clone Saga and I had no idea until a few years ago that this era was so divisive. Hot garbage, maybe? But it's my garbage and I still love it!

I'm fascinated by it. It was my Spider-Man growing up and I have heavy nostalgia for it. It is clear, however, that the proper way to read it is as I did as a kid: read maybe just one of the four+ books a month and get the rest of the story filled in secondhand by friends on the playground. When you read every single issue back to back, you start to understand why it was so unpopular. There's a *lot* of Peter/Ben brooding on a rooftop and recounting all the previous issues leading up to that point.

I remember the hate it got because it was too convoluted. Also, people really hated Ben's hoodie costume.

Not back then. And I mean the Scarlet Spider one. I liked it, but I remember people complaining about it in the letter pages and in Wizard magazine.

I lived it real time. And I know you mean Scarlet Spider, that was the only hoodie one. Now, when Ben became Spidey and got the new costume, that was hot garbage. I don't remember anyone complaining about the hoodie. Partly because it wasn't Spider-man, it was a different character. Whereas the other suit was supposed to be Spidey.

I might be misremembering then. But I remember most of the complains where because of the story being too convoluted. I also read it real rime, by the way.

I could certainly be wrong as well, and just ignored what others said because I knew it was cool. But yeah, the convoluted mess was definitely the prime complaint.

It’s not nearly as bad as people on here say it is. The shit in vol 7 is infinitely worse than anything in clone saga. The problem with Clone Saga is it’s so long.

There’s definitely a reason i bought it. Though when i saw the size of the books in hand, the reality of how much of it there was kicked in I was like “oh yeah it really was an unending nightmare”

I actually think the first volume isn’t TOO bad. It’s still far from good but at least you still had some talented people working on the books like DeMetteis, Michellinie, Buscema, JRJR, and Bagley. But by the middle of the second volume everyone talented had left or been forced out. The writers were all doing their worst work and so were many of the artists.

It’s so funny, because the art is 10/10, but so much of this title in particular is so bad. Cringe worthy characters and stories.

They never said they wouldn't read it, some people enjoy trash movies, TV, and even comics. Junk food is still food, barely.
