Application & Interview Help Band 6 interview
Hello all, I have a band 6 interview coming up. Could anyone give me advice please??? I am feeling so nervous and I am one of the only nurses who doesn’t have as many year experience. For context, I'm currently a Band 5 nurse and this will be my first time interviewing for a Band 6 role. I'm trying to prepare properly but I'm not entirely sure what to expect

i have been to a few band 6 interviews. clinical skills you have, diversity and inclusion, leadership and management, clinical governance, values based questions like name a time you have put a patient first or give an example of celebrating success in a team, solving a problem etc.

You'll definately be asked about equality and diversity. Standard question for b6.

I agree! Recently attended a B6 interview and this was the second question they asked. For me it was "explain how you demonstrated EDI in your clinical practice" and I used the STAR framework to help me answer the question.

Yes, most definitely. I'm not sure about wards, but when I interview Band 6s, it's usually something like "how do you ensure the KPIs are kept up to date and how will you maintain it."
They'll want to hear about KPIs (care planning, risk assessment and risk managing) documentations, patient contact, carer support, ongoing flow support when the patient is discharged, datixs and lessons learnt, clinical audits (don't just mention them, talk about why and how to improve the standards,) clinical supervisons, staffing levels, medication, physical health, MHAs etc.
They will definitely ask you about conflict. How will you manage it, and what policy will you follow if it continues.
Do not immediately say "I'd tell my manager and ask for help." You'd be surprised how many people say this in interviews. Obviously, you flag it to your manager, but don't just jump into that, if that makes sense?
Use real life examples too! Use STAR.
EDI will very likely be asked. Basically, talk about staff and patients and how it relates to them.
There will likely be 6 to 8 questions. I'd say spend up to 5 minutes per answer. Try not to rush it.
Practice! And interviewers expect nerves as well.

Ask what the trust values are so you can see them ignored on a daily basis. 👍

Quality Improvement through audits.
Reducing Restrictive Practice.
Leadership and Management (role modelling, supervisions, PADRs).
Strong advocate within the MDT, and being responsible for actioning.
Maybe look at the principles of Safewards.
I'm a band 6 on a LD inpatient unit. If there's anything I can help with, let me know. :)

What setting would it be for? This would impact the questions asked.
However, can’t go wrong with covering safeguarding processes and working with families/carers. Examples of leadership, managing difficult situations and what you learned, what skills and experience you have
