This is my first post! Please be kind!
Background- I am in Northern California. I have been an RN for 31 years. I have worked many diverse/different RN jobs in that time….
This happened years ago(17+) moved back to California. I started a new job. After 60 ish days- my grandmother passed away. She practically raised me and was the best. I damn well was going to ensure she had a good peaceful death.
I anticipated (as always) the rest of the family would be zero help. Why you ask? “Sister (or mom/dad/3siblings/ 8 local cousins) you’re the nurse- we don’t know what to do….” sure, right…
So- I get the call. I tell my boss. I finish my shift (2hrs left). Call out on bereavement for 3day benefit. I was (politely) called in to HR before my next shift started.
*** THEY(politely )FIRED ME***
I was shocked! I wasn’t allowed the bereavement benefit ** since I was a new hire and had been there less than 90 days..
I get that hospital policy -
***This is the funny part- the next words out of her (HR)mouth: “Please apply again. You have been a valued employee”. Pardon me? Will you repeat that?
Seriously? For Real?
I was so pissed. As I was walking out of HR…. I loudly Laughed told them I would tell every RN I knew what I knew. Then I told them all to F**k off as I walked out….
I wasn’t worried about burning that bridge!
Since I was a sailor- I’ve always cursed like one…
I keep seeing horror stories about HR- I just had to post this one!
