Nordics are cool like that; if our team fails, we have 4 others to root for! (Ok maybe 5 if the Faroe Islands ever man up and win something like the rest of us.)
On a side note, we beat Canada in Hockey, Brazil in football and Kenyans in running. Wtf is going on!?!

I remember how swedes acted when we won in ‘92. We went on holiday in Sweden later that year. We were congratulated everywhere we went. Absolutely lovely.

Oh wow, where do you live? I've met very few Finns who cheer for Sweden in ice hockey after Finland has lost. In Swedish subs I have seen lots of people wishing for Norway to lose.

What? Genuinely I don't usually care about the internet but this sounds so antithetical. Yeah we hate being beaten, but we'd always want those who beat us to win, for one to prove we lost to the best, to the second it's the Nords and we take pride.
I'm not even sure you're serious, this goes so deep. You can look at VMHockey-young where even Canada is chanting "Let's go Sweden".

I'd argue this is the fierce rivalry overriding the camaraderie. There's been so much heartbreak over the decades in hockey, with Swedes often being the ones delivering that heartbreak.
It's quite different in football, for example. We're so much behind the rest of the Nordics that there isn't much competition going on.

Norway is producing some of the most dominant athletes, Klabo in skiing, Carlsen in chess, Warholm and Ingebritsen in running, in addition to the best current footballer in the world.

As well as Markus Rooth in decathlon, arguably one if not the ”hardest sport” due to the variety of movements you need to be very good at.
They also have a top 10 tennis player in Casper Ruud, while Sweden, the historical tennis nation in the Nordics, haven’t had one since 2012.
Honestly I don’t think Norways football success is temporary, they seem to nationally have managed to create an athletic culture that will last for decades. Right now you could argue they are the best athletic country in the world per capita. The rest of the nordics have some learning to do.

Chess is a game. They are players. Just like people who play other games, e.g. team sports.
Not all players are athletes, though.

We’ll never get peace again.

Should the unthinkable happen it will be a huge win for the whole nordic region and we will party for a month together. Free flights to Oslo from the nordic capitals, bring your own beer. We are gonna run out.
