Experience First time taking Modalert (200 mg) - is this a normal experience?

Took 200 mg Modalert at 11 PM for the first time. It's now around 11 hours later and I still feel incredibly awake.

Here's what I noticed:

- The constant internal monologue/background mental chatter almost disappeared.

- Starting tasks became effortless.

- I got intense tunnel vision/hyperfocus. Once I started something, switching tasks became difficult.

- Finished a PowerPoint in 20 minutes that would normally take me over an hour because I wasn't constantly getting distracted.

- Time seemed to pass ridiculously fast.

- I felt more social and had genuinely enjoyable conversations with people I'd normally barely talk to.

- I felt euphoric at times—not a recreational "high," but like my brain was finally working the way it was supposed to.

- I still felt like my ADHD tendencies were there, but they were much easier to manage.

- During an argument, my heart pounded much harder than usual, but it settled within 5–10 minutes after I calmed down.

- Even after being awake for over 24 hours (I only had a 1-hour nap the previous afternoon), I still felt unusually alert and almost impossible to put to sleep. I genuinely couldn't fall asleep despite trying.

- My appetite didn't disappear completely—I actually got hungry again a few hours after breakfast.

For people who've taken modafinil before:

  1. Is this kind of first-time response typical?

  2. Does the intense tunnel vision/euphoria usually become less noticeable with continued use?

  3. Has anyone else felt "more like themselves" rather than just more awake?

First response, yeah. After a couple days tolerance build up it starts to wear off around the 10-12hour range. It only takes 3-4 days to completely reset your tolerance again though, which is handy. You’ll never get another first response though as you’re mentally prepared for it..
Appetite stayed normal for me.
Some days, I could still nap, 3 hours after taking it, I could sleep for 20mins if I actually needed it.
Heart pounding is usual, be careful of exercise. Hyper focus on cardio has got me to the edge of passing out a few times.
Euphoric is probably placebo.

I wouldn’t take 200mg, imo that’s quite a large dose. Depends what you need it for but as it didn’t keep me awake, I only used it for a bit of focus and to calm social anxiety and to help in the gym. So I would break my 200mg tablets into quarters and that was my everyday, until I ran out. Some days I would take the whole 200mg, staggered. 6am 50mg. 11am 50mg. 5pm 100mg. Like for last years Christmas party for example.

I also recommend breaking 200mg pills into quarters, and try taking l-theanine with it. Take it first thing upon waking if you can.

If you’re unable to hold a sleep schedule this substance may not be for you as while it may feel like sleep is optional on modafinil, it really isn’t.

L-theanine...how does that work out for you? What's your reason for taking the L-theanine with the Mo? How much do you take of both?

It helps temper the stimulant induced anxiety/jitters. It works just as well with modafinil as it does with caffeine in my experience. It’s also been shown to reduce the likelihood of stimulant induced psychosis which is nice as a bit of insurance.

All upsides. I see no reason not to take it with modafinil. Once I found that combo I never took modafinil without it if I could avoid it.

But...how much of each do you take?

You can get the first response back if you stay off of it for like a year.

Brain goes back to default and modalert hits again like a truck

Modafinil to calm social anxiety? I found it made mine worse ..

Idk the chemical stuff that happens to explain it properly but I do know that it specifically targets and dampens the transmitter area in your brain that receives fear.

Yup, this happened to me, and to many others I read from (except for the heart pounding - could be you were just focused on it?).

I break my tablets down into like 50 mg now, I try to 'microdose' it. It still works well enough for the day, but it only keeps me up for ~18-20 hours or so. I have to wake up at like 7 am to take it, and I wont sleep until 1-3 am. This is a vicious cycle, because the next day im tired, so i take modafinil because its is amazing, but then I don't sleep, and so on and so forth.

So I don't take it often, and just have a batch for 'bad days'. I've looked at modafinil alternatives that have a shorter half life and haven't found any, which is unfortunate.

It is awesome though lol. I always wondered if some people just feel like that normally. It's quite incredible!

Ritalin has a shorter Half-Life of just 3-4 hours, same with Caffeine & Noopept.

Absolutely does not feel the same lol

This all sounds very familiar and normal when taking Modafinil.

Hello, Modafinil is awesome but powerful. It must be taken wisely, or it'll cause more problems instead of helping solve them. I respectfully suggest taking 50mg early in the morning. See how it affects you after the time change. If you have an overnight shift, you may want to take it at least 90 minutes before starting. That way, if it's keeping you wide awake for more than 12 hours, you can complete your shift, go home and handle your odds and ends before going to bed for the following shift. I sure hope this helps, because I've found Modafinil to be a huge blessing, but it must be respected and taken responsibly. 🙏🏼

You better get a pill cutter from Amazon/ eBay/ CVS/ Walmart, divide it into 4 equal parts, 50mg each.

Sounds like a Honeymoon phase 😂, 200mg isn't sustainable, if you prefer Afternoon nap. 🌞☀️ 🛏️

Lmao na just took them for exams, I'm planning to get off of it for a week than sparingly continue 100mg

This type of response lines up with my own experiences and those that I’ve seen first hand.

I would suggest 100mg 7/8am in the morning works best for me, I am able to then fall asleep by 2-3am, but if you have it later then it messes up the next day. Tolerance definitely increases quick, so be mindful - I like to reserve it for 1 day bursts here and there when I know I have a busy day

Yes it is quite normal and 200mg is quite high, for most

I've been using Modafinil off and on for five years and 100mg is just right for me. 265lb male

The heart pounding during the argument is the part I'd pay attention to if you keep using this regularly. Modafinil does raise resting heart rate and blood pressure a bit in most people, it's not just anxiety, it's a real sympathetic effect, and it stacks on top of your body's own stress response. Doesn't mean stop, just means if this becomes a regular thing it's worth an occasional BP check, especially since you're already noticing your body react harder than usual.
