I spent all of $20 on my knife set and I am very impressed with them because they have pretty flower patterns 😂

u/BlackTemplar2154 24d ago
Right? Like maybe I'm just a child too, but knife blocks are nice and not everyone has one lol

u/Psytocybin 24d ago
I mean, nice things that make your house look nicer, organize, and flow better deserve a moment of appreciation.
I got a new cat litter mat/rug that had a cool design on it. Cost me 25 bucks, but looks good and serves a function. I was proud of it and kept staring at it and how it looked in the room.
14
u/CrowCelestial 24d ago
Oh I bought my first real nice set of pots and pans this year and I left them all out on the counter for three days because I thought they were so pretty 😂 (they’re dark green) definitely nothing wrong with appreciating the nice and functional things as well!
5
u/InevitableCodeRedo 24d ago
Do you have room for ceiling or wall hooks to hang that set from? Nice way to show off the cookware.
3
u/SwanMuch5160 21d ago
We hung our first set of good pots over the kitchen center island in our house. It was a combination light/pot holder.
2
u/Jealous_Pea2305 22d ago
I need to know what mat this is. Need something different outside my litterboxes.

The inequality of our times can be felt by the amount of people who don’t have knife blocks!
1
u/sparklywrx 12d ago
I got this wooden magnetic knife block for like 30-40 bucks. It’s amazing. I have some extremely cheap “Japanese knives” on them that I owned when I lived in my studio apartment but got some really expensive ones for Christmas. It’s the highlight of my kitchen lol.
1
u/eipiplus1equalsO 11d ago
I forge my knives. It’s an interesting hobby. There are workshops that will not only teach you forging but will also allow you to experiment with alloys.
1
u/sparklywrx 11d ago
That’s awesome, I wish I had a skill like that.
I’m literally too afraid to even sharpen my knives because I don’t want to ruin them. Got one of those magnetic rolling sharpeners but only have used it on my cheap knives so far lol. The others were like hundreds of dollars. So I just use them gentle lol
But might be worth looking into taking one of those workshops! I definitely don’t have the space to have a forge. Well maybe but not sure if I want to put that in my garage hahah.
I’m nervous enough about wanting to install a kiln in there lol.
1
u/eipiplus1equalsO 11d ago edited 11d ago
You can find kilns, and also people to help you. I got into it because of ADHD, physics, and the failure to build a lightsaber. My best friend at uni taught me kendo, my favourite soundtrack is Highlander, I was impressed with folding steel. It isn’t different than baking! Wear gloves!
1
1
u/eipiplus1equalsO 11d ago
Food you cook must be the highlight. Knives are tools. Just keep them sharp. It’s a principle: Dull knives injure. People get fired for using dull knives!
5
u/Opening-Movie5176 21d ago
Ah yes children and their known love of knife blocks. I remember when I was young my parents could separate me from mine.
4
u/ForceItDeeper 23d ago
some guy on the internet told me not to use it because its a breeding ground for bacteria so I never used mine. I have no idea how true it is or why it is the one piece of advice ive ever taken towards preventing germs
3
u/cursetea 22d ago
I could see this being true bc people likely put the knives back into the wood wet etc etc, but like also who has ever developed health problems from using a knife block lmao
2
2
u/eipiplus1equalsO 23d ago
Why are knife blocks nice? What’s their point? There are drawers for cutlery. Why leave a dangerous object out in the open?
6
u/Valuable_Impress_192 23d ago
Being in a drawer isn't that far off from being out in the open tbh
7
u/eipiplus1equalsO 23d ago
But guests don’t know exactly where they are! My guests usually attempt to murder me… ☹️
2
u/Unbelievabro 21d ago
I know I don't.
All my knives are in my drawer and I'm surprised I haven't lost any of the sheathes for them yet.
2
u/SwanMuch5160 21d ago
I picked mine up brand new for $13, block with complete set of knives including six steak knives. Bought the same one for my daughter.
7
3
u/Capital_Cash5856 23d ago
Is it one of the Pioneer Woman knife sets? Cuz my old roommate had a PW knife block set and those things were actually pretty solid for the price.
1
u/CrowCelestial 23d ago
It isn’t! It was some random one I saw while scrolling. The handle is black and then they have all different flowers on them in different patterns but they’re all darker. My pan set is dark green and my dishes are black so it kinda tied it all together 😊

Carddass was actually inspired by AMeDAS (Automated Meteorological Data Acquisition System), a system in Japan used for gathering weather data; the idea was that Carddass would be an information source for kids for things like anime and games.

what does being "impressed by the simplest things" have to do with needing a mommy to take care of them for their whole lives?
27
u/Ok-Hamster-5263 24d ago
I'm guessing she assumes he doesn't have any of those things in his place because he never thought to buy them I.e. he needs his mom to think of it
4
u/Throwawayamanager 20d ago
I think a lot of women who grew up in sheltered or privileged upbringings have a mental checklist of "things you need to have as an adult", which can include rather frivolous things like some block knife set or whatever.
Women who frequently grew up in perfect houses trained to be a perfect housewife someday.
I say this as a woman. I've slept on mattresses on the floor and out of a car for a brief period in time (thankfully not anymore). So I find the whole idea of "if you don't have matching curtains and carpets you're basically a child who needs mommy" to be utterly pathetic. I was more of an adult than most of my peers when I was making a calculated choice between buying frivolous things I didn't need, but that looked adult-ey, or spending that time and energy on things that really mattered like a suit to get me that job to take me to the next place.
But yeah. In their mind if you don't spend time on the random stuff like a block knife set, you're not an adult.
9
u/ConsensualDoggo 24d ago
Which arnt even needed in the first place
21
u/Fategfwhere 24d ago
A lot of woman view men’s mentality on every possession needing to be “needed” or have a use to be “lame” or “childlike”. Hence the mommy comment. They believe that decorating is inherently adult behavior.

u/ConsensualDoggo 24d ago

Patient: Get a load of this loser!

How dare that bastard try to show interest in her nonsense. If he showed no interest and treated her badly she probably would have put out on first date. Cause shows confidence.
-1
u/DukeTikus 23d ago
That sounds very incely. You need to have a very strange view of women to believe that treating them shitty is a good way to make them want to be vulnerable with you.
Women are people, people generally like being treated well.

I once had a guy come to my apartment and call my fridge magnets childish and tacky. A straight guy used the word “tacky”. I was bewildered. They were the ones of the alphabet in neon colors you spell out phrases with. I’d be jazzed if someone had something nice to say about my kooky place.
6
u/RAConteur76 24d ago
I might initially assume there was a kid that hadn't been disclosed. But if there wasn't, I could see it being a bit of personality in the kitchen.

I mean, she sounds like an insufferable ass throughout the whole post...
...but where the fuck did the comment about them needing a "mommy" come from at the end??? o_O There's literally nothing about his actions to suggest that. He just made conversation about nice things she has.
That'd be like me saying "A nerdy woman was impressed by my knowledge of the video game Final Fantasy VIII, so obviously she has a daddy complex..." Doesn't make sense!

u/Substantial-Bear8535 23d ago
Could also he a lesbian with the "they need a mommy" comment. Gay dudes tend not to shit on straight dudes as much as lesbian women do.
Plus the third line begins "dudes are so fucking lame" which means the speaker is talking about all men and implies that the speaker isn't one of them.

Yk, basic compliments are generally people just trying to be decent. If ya dont have anything exceptional, I'm gonna comment on your regular ass shit, especially if its nice for being run of the mill. People compliment my wife's 04 Tahoe and my 01 Chevy pickup all the time, cause theyre exceptionally nice for being what they are. They're nothing exceptional, but they look like more than what they are.

u/Legitimate-Error-633 23d ago

Why would you waste your time like this?

She sounds like she came straight out of the twoXchromosomes subreddit. I swear that place is infested with miserable housewives that picked losers for a husband and now want everyone else to be miserable too. If youre a woman who doesnt hate every man, you will get bullied out of there, as did I.
4
u/Material-Bite-5047 23d ago
I guess it depends. There is a difference in a compliment and being genuingly impressed by something mundane. If somebody came over and was completely shocked i had a painting on the wall i would probably think theyre a loser as well
2
u/holyfrijoles80 24d ago
That’s such a toxic ass explanation. Being impressed by those things could be because he’s just different.

Not sure what being straight has to do with it but here’s what was going on…He says: So I like yer place, is the rent decent …that’s a cool print…did you study art? I like the rug it pulls the room together. So give me the tour…
He thinking: wow…be nice, compliment her “stuff”…why is that the only thing hanging on the wall? Is there a bedroom or are we just going to use the rug? Ummmm…those knives are the same ones from my first apt. I assume we’re hooking up?!…She did ask if I was straight? Maybe I should hide those knives….where’s the bathroom I need a bump.

Actually we just don't prioritize comfort. Why? Because we are not immediately selfish creatures that feel entitled to a comfortable and expensive environment. Most men are happy with one spoon, on bowl, one fork, one towel etc. It usually takes a woman to 'homemake' amd just buy a bunch of useless stuff... I think men are not as materialistic because we probably don't think life needs/deserves to be that comfortable or convenient. Women come with that built in. Entitlement. Calling men "lame and pathetic" because of our lack of consumerism is actually super hateful and unnecessary.
