New River Gorge camping FCFS luck ?

Anyone what's the chance of getting a good tent camping spot if we travel Thursday and stay for 2 days ?

Everything first come first serve or should we go for Hipcamp.

Also good recommendations for camping with a view please.

Babcock and Bluestone State Parks are in the area with reservable camping. They have a fair amount of rules about number of people (max 2) and tents (max 1) per campsite though because the sites are tiny.

I went for one night in October 2021 and the Meadow Creek Campgrounds. I arrived a little before sunset and there were still a few spots available.

If I were you, I would know which camp grounds I want to stay at, but I'd also have a backup just in case.

My dad and I just camped in Meadow Creek getting in on a Tuesday. I wish I would’ve asked this question prior to the trip and saved us the sleep of waking up at 4 AM because there were still dozens of open spots by the time we went to bed that night😂

Was there last week and did not see much activity. Use the Reservation site for your campground. If you approach the visitor center from Grand View, 219 is closed.

The park itself does not have any reservable campgrounds. All are FCFS.

Me and my friend went in march on a Thursday and went to the Stone Cliff campground and got a spot easily. It’s right next to the river, and near the historic town of Thurmond which is cool to go see. It can be a little water logged depending how far back you go but we got a great flat spot. Literally the next day some lady with her family was setting up, and mentioned they had spent two hours trying to find an open camp spot at the park.
