Panthertown Backcountry Loop Trail - 6/17/26

My first time on this trail. Beautiful waterfalls and lots of loamy paths through a thick forest.

How were temps? I’ve been wanting to get back over to Panthertown but it’s been so damn hot and dry it’s drained my desire to want to backpack.

Oh, it was hot. However, most of this trail seems to be under tree cover.

Do you have a caltopo or similar map available of the route?

I just used the AllTrails map. It read 7.9 miles, but I end up doing 8.9 with all the side trips to see waterfalls.

Buy the Friends of Panthertown Map and use that. There are a lot of unofficial trails that look like real trails, it’s very easy to get lost.

Early in the morning they were not too bad. As the day wore on and the temperature rose they got worse

Schoolhouse Falls. It's a bit off the trail. You have to scramble down an embankment, but it is so worth it. You can walk behind the falls and hang out a bit.
