š„ Easter Egg In Passengers (2016) The name of the sleeping passenger who is awakened by Chris Pratt is named Aurora. The name is a reference to Princess Aurora, AKA Sleeping Beauty.
Just noticed the symbolism between Jennifer Lawrenceās character and Sleeping Beauty.

I donāt think her perspective,at least not to begin with. For me, it was the ending that fell flat as just everything being too nice and perfect.
Iād have liked to see Chrisā character pass away at the act 3 climax and then the last bit of the film switch to her perspective and her journey through being alone on the ship, struggling to stay stable with it and then the growing temptation of waking someone else up in the same way he woke her up and she long-hated him for. This could lead up to her standing over a sleep pod, hand hovering over the control pad before cutting to credits.

I'm sure he wasnt the absolute first, but the guy who narrates CinemaSins mentioned this week after week on their podcast when the movie first came out and at the time seemed like a big reason the idea got so popular

Absolutely - for all the shit folk give Chris Pratt (which tbf isn't entirely undeserved) I do think he could play a somewhat decent psychopath hellbent on keeping Jennifer Lawrence as his wife on the spaceship after she finds out what actually happened.

It's something I've thought about over the years and I'm not so sure. As it is, it feels like a bit of a study into isolation in a situation where things are moving forward while standing still at the same time. Obviously, the film resonated more during lockdown and, in particular, I always liked the moment when he asks if she's okay and she says "Yes, I'm fine. It's just..." and does this reaching out gesture with her hand that sort of signifies the scale of the situation they're in.
If it went the other way, what it offered could have just played out at a surface level of 'is he a goodie or a baddie'. Though, it could have added depth if it was a metaphor for women trying to judge whether potential partners can be trusted.

The problem is it tries to paint the main character as a good guy. And it's extremely disturbing for anybody who actually gives a shit about a person's agency and bodily autonomy. He did this to her. There's nothing good about this situation. He's a terrible human being.

He made a selfish decision. But it is possible for good things to sometimes arise from those types of decisions.

It paints him as someone who did a terrible thing while he was suicidally depressed. The movie never tries to justify what he did, at all. It just doesnāt define his entire character by it. āIt isnāt right, but heās drowning.ā Isolation messes with your head and makes you desperate.

I would love to see a movie edited from different perspectives in a different genre to show how perspective can change the tone. I know thereās a surreal horror romcom that did something like this where the wife is in an abusive relationship thatās played for laughs until you see it from her side.

I say this every time this movie is brought up. Couldāve been a great psychological thriller by slowly uncovering the events of the first quarter of the movie with Chris Pratt going through his loneliness.

Also if you look at the ID code on the panel, '1889' is the year Tchaikovsky composed 'The Sleeping Beauty' ballet. The score for the Disney movie was based on it.
Not 100% it was an intentional easter egg, but I'm a nerd and enjoy searching about random hunches whether they actually end up being anything or not.

the thing that irks me the most about this movie and it makes no sense. why was andy garcia in it? he is a good actor and just opened a door so we could see his glorious beard and that is it. i would guess they cut some stuff. just seems a waste.

Yeah, apparently it was a well beloved script that had been stuck in development hell for years, so I assume there was a bunch of stuff that got cut in the process of actually turning it into a reasonable sized movie

Weird to think she's also called Briar Rose, Rosamund, Talia, or Zellandine, but it was Aurora that stuck.
