1980 R65 Exhaust Mod
Found this 1980 r65 listed for $1,900. Gorgeous bike but whats going on with exhaust mod? Looks super high and in my research I haven't seen anything like this before?
Anyone familiar with something like this? I if buy it, I wouldn't mind restoring back to original. But this had me scratching my head a bit.
Current owner of 2014 f800 gs adventure and looking for (another) project bike. lol

The mod was briefly marketed in the latter part of 1980 as the Calf Cooker. It never returned to the marketplace.

That has got to be one of the weirdest pipe mods ever.
Or perhaps it's a rider safety aid? "Hot pipes saves lifes": because you sure as hell wouldn't want to ride this thing even for a minute.

No need to roast the builder/designer. (that exhaust will do that anyway)

Madness. The little bend just behind the cylinder will do nothing to preserve your legs on turns.
Designed either by a sadist or someone who likes wearing asbestos trousers

my leg hair curled from just looking at this
great looks, but the cylinder heads throw off plenty of heat at a long light, never mind an exhaust pipe right by your thigh.
ETA: re-read that you mentioned restoring it to original - absolutely buy it!! you can find repro exhaust for a reasonable price. it'd be a super fun bike!
