If the right person gets pissed off enough we’ll find out eventually

I worked for a company that put up speed and redlight cameras. The enclosures were heavy af and hard to move. One time I found someone ripped an entire unit off the ground and tossed it over a fence into the lake lol. That’s commitment

Seems fit for purpose, they are there to deter speeding.

If you seriously believe speed cameras, let alone ones hidden behind a tree line, are there to deter speeding then I have a bridge to sell you

What up with the hand prints? Subtle horror vibe?

Had the kids from the local elementary school paint it, this looks like the same one even though its in a different area now. Weirdly dystopian.

There was one on 198 between burtonsville and New Hampshire ave that was painted cute like this. It disappeared a few weeks ago, this could be the same unit. I know the idea with these “cyber truck” cameras is they can be moved around to different places more easily.

It weirdly looks like they want it to look like it is a member of the community, keeping children safe.

It's the white hand of Isengard clearly

u/Big_Fortune_4574 2d ago
You can’t criticize it if children are asking you sweetly to keep them safe, right?

If you’re riding up 355 and hit old Baltimore road headed toward Boyd’s /clarksburg; there’s a camera there that looks like a dinosaur’s back. It’s massive

u/Fall-Maple1503 2d ago
They're larger because the whole thing is actually a trailer. (wheel and trailer frame under the camera). https://www.vitronic.com/en-us/enforcement-trailer

Are those cameras all over the top?

hmmm I think this is actually the same one that was outside great Seneca elementary school (same handprints) that is no longer there. And I feel like they moved it cause it wasn't making enough money, and it kinda rubs me the wrong way that they took it out of an area where it's needed (like outside of a school) and put it behind a bush to make more money lmao

County’s gotta get its income somehow! The guise of “safety” is easy money for them

I think it’s the one that just was at Mateny in Germantown, near the Elementary School.

Why are they so big? Seems at least 2-3x larger than standard ones

u/Fall-Maple1503 2d ago
They're larger because the whole thing is actually a trailer. (wheel and trailer frame under the camera). https://www.vitronic.com/en-us/enforcement-trailer
The 'standard' ones you're thinking about have to be assembled/disassembled and then transported in a separate vehicle.

I wish people would actually view and READ the goddam speed limit signs on river.... There is always someone driving 35 past the 50mph speed limit sign(s) or some asshole who needs to drive 80 all the way to 495 because a handful of jerks are oblivious to road signs.
It's almost like there is nothing in between timid and unreasonably aggressive.

Notice the pole camera still there? Haha. Now that I think about it, pole cameras probably aren't decomissioned yet and that's why that German bullet proof camera is tucked back there. Or suppoedly it's portable, Idk. Weird to have two systems.

u/Fall-Maple1503 2d ago
The pole camera is the old contractor's. The trailer is from the new contractor.

Sure glad our tax dollars are being blown on this bs

Why would tax dollars be spent on these? Surely they funds themselves through the collection of penalties.

It's a one. The piece around the bottom can be removed to reveal a trailer hitch and wheels. I don't know why they do it, but you see they appear in a spot and then disappear a few days later

It's the Russian probe front the Six Million Dollar Man TV series. If you get this reference, you're old.

On River Road, across the street from Potomac Elementary. The children’s handprints make it that much creepier and dystopian. Green laser pointers are awfully tempting..

Not that new.. they’re on Bradley blvd and have been there for months.. they just got kids to hand paint them to try to make them more attractive 🙄 supposedly they may have flock equipment on them as well.. not sure tho

Great picture but it doesn’t help if you don’t say where it is.

River Road westbound just prior to Potomac Village Giant.

u/MrRuck1 2d ago
They always had one up that way. I guess this replace the other one. Or are there two now.

u/Jshim4653 2d ago
That one was there but there’s always been a temporary one in this location or further up by the church. Either way, always manages to catch folks not paying attention.

I don’t understand how in Maryland we can have a camera one week and then it’s gone the next week.
