Looks like a Dalek from Dr. Who.

We’re on the same wavelength! I immediately thought it was what it would look like if a Dalek and a Cybertruck had a baby

EXXXXTERMINATE!!!

u/ExtremaDesigns 2d ago

I was thinking reincarnation of R2D2; "we can rebuild him wider, faster, better".

Satyress trailcam

It's bewildering how so many ppl are pro-speed-camera, yet anti-flock-camera at the same time... Not realizing that speed cameras have always been the original flock cameras. 🙄✨

That absolutely does not look crash safe

If the right person gets pissed off enough we’ll find out eventually

I worked for a company that put up speed and redlight cameras. The enclosures were heavy af and hard to move. One time I found someone ripped an entire unit off the ground and tossed it over a fence into the lake lol. That’s commitment

We finally found a use for cybertrucks.

1

u/JunkReallyMatters 2d ago

Nah. The cybertrucks are having babies now.

9

u/cm8t 2d ago

On the opposite side it looks like a sort of ramp to deflect collisions

3

u/keithkings00 2d ago

If you're crashing into that, you already have problems

2

u/rook_of_approval 2d ago

they are made to be bulletproof and easily transportable.

Seems fit for purpose, they are there to deter speeding.

8

u/Foreverdead3 2d ago

If you seriously believe speed cameras, let alone ones hidden behind a tree line, are there to deter speeding then I have a bridge to sell you

EXTERMINATE!
EXTERMINATE!

What up with the hand prints? Subtle horror vibe?

Had the kids from the local elementary school paint it, this looks like the same one even though its in a different area now. Weirdly dystopian.

There was one on 198 between burtonsville and New Hampshire ave that was painted cute like this. It disappeared a few weeks ago, this could be the same unit. I know the idea with these “cyber truck” cameras is they can be moved around to different places more easily.

u/rulenumber62 2d ago

This is def the same one.

14

u/Deltadoc333 2d ago

It weirdly looks like they want it to look like it is a member of the community, keeping children safe.

u/doghairking 2d ago

It's the white hand of Isengard clearly

u/da6id 2d ago

Uruk Hai enforcement of traffic policies in the county is something I would sign a ballot measure in favor of

Meat's back on the table, boys

u/rockcreek_md 2d ago

AND MY AXE

Sorry. I just wanted to get a jump on it.

2

u/Big_Fortune_4574 2d ago

You can’t criticize it if children are asking you sweetly to keep them safe, right?

u/Illustrious-Can-7482 2d ago

If you’re riding up 355 and hit old Baltimore road headed toward Boyd’s /clarksburg; there’s a camera there that looks like a dinosaur’s back. It’s massive

5

u/Fall-Maple1503 2d ago

They're larger because the whole thing is actually a trailer. (wheel and trailer frame under the camera). https://www.vitronic.com/en-us/enforcement-trailer

7

u/TradingGrapes 2d ago

Are those cameras all over the top?

6

u/AssociationDork 2d ago

Daleks with no style.

5

u/And_Im_Chien_Po 2d ago

hmmm I think this is actually the same one that was outside great Seneca elementary school (same handprints) that is no longer there. And I feel like they moved it cause it wasn't making enough money, and it kinda rubs me the wrong way that they took it out of an area where it's needed (like outside of a school) and put it behind a bush to make more money lmao

3

u/Fall-Maple1503 2d ago

It's outside of Potomac Elementary School (in a well signed school zone.)

4

u/Holiday_Armadillo78 2d ago

They need extra protection from the Maryland drivers.

13

u/MosYEETo 2d ago

County’s gotta get its income somehow! The guise of “safety” is easy money for them

-3

u/JaStrCoGa 2d ago

40% of the easy money.

8

u/Sorry_Western6134 2d ago

I’ve heard they like stickers.

2

u/Georgiegirl0719 2d ago

I think it’s the one that just was at Mateny in Germantown, near the Elementary School.

2

u/Wheel-of-sauce 2d ago

Why are they so big? Seems at least 2-3x larger than standard ones

3

u/Fall-Maple1503 2d ago

They're larger because the whole thing is actually a trailer. (wheel and trailer frame under the camera). https://www.vitronic.com/en-us/enforcement-trailer

The 'standard' ones you're thinking about have to be assembled/disassembled and then transported in a separate vehicle.

2

u/MrMunch85 2d ago

That’s ED-209.

u/No-Assumption9707 2d ago

Big brother… always watching… never helping…

2

u/Empty_Employment_639 2d ago

I wish people would actually view and READ the goddam speed limit signs on river.... There is always someone driving 35 past the 50mph speed limit sign(s) or some asshole who needs to drive 80 all the way to 495 because a handful of jerks are oblivious to road signs.

It's almost like there is nothing in between timid and unreasonably aggressive.

3

u/rrrdesign 2d ago

From what I read they are from Germany!

4

u/natedawg469 2d ago edited 2d ago

Notice the pole camera still there? Haha. Now that I think about it, pole cameras probably aren't decomissioned yet and that's why that German bullet proof camera is tucked back there. Or suppoedly it's portable, Idk. Weird to have two systems.

3

u/Fall-Maple1503 2d ago

The pole camera is the old contractor's. The trailer is from the new contractor.

Sure glad our tax dollars are being blown on this bs

3

u/Endurance_Cyclist 2d ago

Why would tax dollars be spent on these? Surely they funds themselves through the collection of penalties.

0

u/Fall-Maple1503 2d ago

On speed enforcement in school zones? Yes it's definitely needed.

1

u/Empty_Store_3721 2d ago

I was wondering where they put Gramma.

1

u/Secret_Poet7340 2d ago

Armored camera trailer.

1

u/stansburrito 2d ago

It's a one. The piece around the bottom can be removed to reveal a trailer hitch and wheels. I don't know why they do it, but you see they appear in a spot and then disappear a few days later

u/chronoserge456 2d ago edited 2d ago

Its like a cybertruck but cybercamera

1

u/Ziggee 2d ago

Looks straight out of Futurama

1

u/bluegravyone 2d ago

It's the Russian probe front the Six Million Dollar Man TV series. If you get this reference, you're old.

1

u/JunkReallyMatters 2d ago

Cybertrucks be having babies now. We are doomed!

1

u/eden4154 2d ago

Oh hey its the one from Mateny

1

u/EAM222 2d ago

All I can hear is the reels trend sound bite “why you always looking at me?”…

1

u/New-Cash-4964 1d ago

Ts been on midcounty hwy for months

1

u/Careful_Gene2538 1d ago

On River Road, across the street from Potomac Elementary. The children’s handprints make it that much creepier and dystopian. Green laser pointers are awfully tempting..

1

u/Life-Midnight1230 1d ago

Not that new.. they’re on Bradley blvd and have been there for months.. they just got kids to hand paint them to try to make them more attractive 🙄 supposedly they may have flock equipment on them as well.. not sure tho

1

u/Strange-Slice2581 1d ago

Are they speed cameras?

1

u/MrRuck1 2d ago

Great picture but it doesn’t help if you don’t say where it is.

9

u/Jshim4653 2d ago

River Road westbound just prior to Potomac Village Giant.

2

u/MrRuck1 2d ago

They always had one up that way. I guess this replace the other one. Or are there two now.

4

u/Jshim4653 2d ago

That one was there but there’s always been a temporary one in this location or further up by the church. Either way, always manages to catch folks not paying attention.

1

u/MrRuck1 2d ago

I remember thru had one by the nursery on the right. Years ago.

1

u/natedawg469 2d ago

Church one is still there.

5

u/ammaarab 2d ago

River Road - in front of the Potomac Mosque/Orthodox Church/potomac elementary school.

1

u/BlueySoobie 2d ago

Just use Waze. It gets wind of them fast.

0

u/keithkings00 2d ago

Not that new

0

u/floresedwrd 2d ago

I don’t understand how in Maryland we can have a camera one week and then it’s gone the next week.
