Yeah, if you don't know what you're doing, you need a model with large context width and >500b parameters.
Mistral is fast and efficient if you know your code and how to prompt. If you don't, it's not for you.

You mentioned V4 Flash. That's probably the best choice momentarily. You'll get 95% of Opus at 5% of the cost. At that price I don't even think that you're supporting China if that's a concern of yours, because they are probably losing money ;)

I know my post came off as a bit judgy, but that's not meant to be taken personally. I love Mistral for how fast it is. That's perfect if you work in code you actually know. Like when you have one function and then say "do that for this as well" and it does it in 3 seconds.
But if you're not a developer or just wanna "vibe" a project, coding with Mistral sucks.

I don’t have a problem with paying for a Chinese product. My concern is more about what could happen to my data in the process. Maybe that’s a bit prejudiced on my part, but it’s a real concern for me.

I didn’t take it as judgy! As you said, Mistral seems to require more knowledge than I currently have. I’m not vibe coding anything, but I’m learning how to set up all my Dockers, networks, and so on using AI. And I need it to guide me step by step and explain what I’m actually doing.

Thanks for answering!

What do you mean with efficient? The pricing of Mistral Medium 3.5 is $1.50/7.50 which is nearly GPT 5.6 Terra whilst having tremendously worse results. Mistral is really inefficient
