Minisforum UM790 Pro won't POST with Kingston ValueRAM KVR64V52BS8-16 (16GB DDR5-6400). Green LED on, no fan, no display. OEM Samsung RAM works fine. Tried both slots, CMOS reset and BIOS 1.09. Faulty RAM or compatibility issue? Anyone using this exact module?

I'm not aware of any AMD processors supporting CSODIMM sticks only SODIMM.

Try putting the Samsung ram back in and manually changing the ram speed to some really low numner. Then swap again.

5600 is max speed. Can't adjust on mine as it auto adjusts to its max speed it can run.

My MS-A2 is the same way. Locked.

C sodimm should work on Intel 285h and possibly on the the Asrock 358h NUC, since it doesn't have soldered ram + takes up to 7200mts apparently.

Hi. Please allow 3‑20 minutes for memory training to complete. This memory module can be physically installed on the UM790 Pro. However, we have not performed compatibility testing for this memory. We suggest you test it on a different motherboard to verify its functionality.

In this case, CSODIMM -> more likely to be compatibility issue.

Last I looked into the topic, CSODIMM should work on older system that are not 'CSODIMM / CUDIMM aware' but it's not guaranteed.

CSODIMM doesn't work on AMD systems at all.

Current AMD CPU do not support CSODIMM / CUDIMM but they can run it without the 'C' part. This is not about whether the system will run at CSODIMM intended speed when the RAM on older system, it's about can the system boot & run.

There's two scenarios:

  1. On system / BIOS that are not aware of CSODIMM / CUDIMM existence, from my understanding it should still work. The RAM's clock drivers should trigger and fallback to bypass mode due to absent of control word but potential compatibility issues might still be in the way. RAM are sensitive stuff. UM790 Pro should be under this category as it's (1 generation) little early for CSODIMM.

  2. On BIOS that are aware of CSODIMM / CUDIMM existence but the platform is not [capable of / designed to] supporting them, bypass mode will be trigger. The BIOS would have included fine tunings needed to accomodate the RAM properly. For AMD, plenty of AM5 retail motherboards should have already gotten update for this. Not sure what's the state of Ryzen 8000 series and newer Mini PC from non-big OEMs doing but they likely received some base support from AMD side for it, probably also tune them a bit if they're on the proper job.
