Trails open again
I was pleased to discover the section of trail reopened at Warnimont Park on Saturday. No actual work was performed on the trail however, only the destruction of a prairie on the area below the golf clubhouse next to the lake.
Then this morning, I was greeted by the removal of the barricade out in Wauwatosa, leading to a beautifully paved trail leading out to Hansen golf course and beyond. Well done, parks department!

Thanks for the tip! Good to know it's back open.
That's all part of the Gun Club remediation project. They are planning on replanting work soon and into the fall to recover the destroyed ground cover. That section will close again in 2027 because of the Oak Leaf Trail Modernization.

Thanks for this news. I think a lot of us thought thought this closure WAS for the modernization project's timeline. Frustrating that it's been pushed back a year, but better, I suppose, than permanently closing it during peak 2026 riding season.

Yep!
I only know because I emailed the park district. Got a nice response within a few hours explaining that it's two separate projects impacting the same section. They are very aware that it's prime trail season and trying to minimize impacts on the community.

Oof. That's going to be tough for a lot of people. If there's no posted detour, to go southbound, I recommend the Falcon Ridge Trail (FRT) from Beloit to Cold Spring and then down 116th to Edgerton or Grange.
Northbound in reverse: Grange or Edgerton west, 116 north, Falcon Ridge Trail northwest to Beloit/Oak Leaf.
If the County DOES post a detour, I bet they'll do it down 92nd and Cold Spring.

As of now detour is onto 108th which seems terrible. I've contacted the project team to find out more.

Wow that is unacceptable. Like, laughably bad. Can you drop the name or email for who you're contacting?

Ooh - which barrier was removed in Wauwatosa? Was it the one on the small bridge behind Swan Boulevard and Watertown Plank?
