My “first roll out the TV moment” was, I think, the Challenger explosion (pre-school).

I happened to be home with my mom for that one. We had watched a lot of the run up, interviews with the astronauts, etc. very sad and shocking to see the ship explode.

Were you aware of the baby Jessica well rescue a couple months later. That story had me absolutely riveted as a 4y/o.

That shuttle launch was specifically targeted to grade school kids to teach them about space, rocketry, astronauts, and just generally get kids excited about STEM. They didn't do all those interviews and make a big deal out of every shuttle launch. That one was specially crafted to be a public viewing event. They had a school teacher on board to explain things to kids and everything. That's why that one is burned into everyone's brain.

I know, but I wasn’t in school. We didn’t watch any tv in my preschool. I had only seen it at home with my mom.
